Acend win VCT Europe Stage 3 Challengers 1 – How did they do it?
Acend started the tournament with a dominant victory over Rix.GG Thunder. Their next opponent, FunPlus Phoenix proved to be a bit more of a tougher team. That series resulted in a 2-1 scoreline in favour of Acend. Guild Esports was the next opponent in line, a team which had just beaten Team BDS and Fnatic. This series was expected to be much closer, but unfortunately it was just 2 straight stomps from the European lineup.
Grand Finals
The streak of wins got the team into the Grand Finals, where they were eagerly waiting to see who would join them through the lower bracket. To many’s surprise, G2 was the team that kept on progressing. They won against Rix, Fnatic, FPX, and Guild to reach the finals. Despite such a heroic effort to reach the finals, G2 didn’t replicate their success in the later stages of the event. They only managed to win a single map in the best of 5, and lost the series 3-1.
