BIG win Funspark ULTI 2020 – How did they do it?

BIG kicked off the event with a disappointing loss versus the North American mix team of Extra Salt. They had lost the series 2-1 and dropped down into the losers bracket versus Evil Geniuses. Here, BIG were challenged thoroughly as the new Evil Geniuses lineup was quite strong, but eventually, it was the German squad to take the win.

Their next opponent was Complexity, which was also a very strong team. This was clearly shown in the end results, as both maps went into overtime, finishing with a 19-16 scoreline in favour of BIG Clan. They then played the Finnish HAVU squad, which was no obstacle for the German team. BIG won the series 2-0 (Mirage 16-5, Train 16-11) and advanced onto the lower bracket final against ForZe. BIG Clan carried the momentum they had from the lower bracket and managed to beat ForZe 2-0 to reach the Finals.

Grand Finals

While BIG were powering through the lower bracket, Extra Salt were slowly climbing the upper bracket, beating teams like Dignitas and ForZe to reach the Grand Finals. Extra Salt were given the first map as a win by default due to never dropping to the losers bracket. This meant that the series would only have 4 maps to play if it went the distance, and Extra Salt kicked it off with a 16-14 win on Dust 2. What followed was one of the most hectic grand final series in CS:GO history, as BIG Clan gave it their all to perform the classic reverse sweep. The results that followed were 16-13 on Train, 16-14 on Vertigo, and 16-14 on Overpass, all favouring BIG, meaning that they were crowned champions of the Funspark ULTI 2020 event. Here are the final moments from the last map:
