Call of Duty: Modern Warfare sold made $600 million within the first three days of being launched, solidifying itself as the highest-selling game in the franchise for this console generation, and possibly ever. The gaming community has loved the return to boots on the ground and classic, straight-up gunfight gameplay. Following last year’s title of Black Ops 4, which included the battle-royale game mode of ‘Blackout’, many were disappointed that the game-type would not be featured in Modern Warfare as it was also a massive selling point. While they swatted away any rumors earlier in the year, Activision has officially announced Call of Duty: Warzone – a free-to-play battle-royale experience that looks to conquer the genre once it releases. Read on to learn absolutely everything you need to know.
An Upgrade to Blackout?
In many ways, it is. This time around, the battle-royale experience will be garnered for lobbies of 150 players instead of 100, with rumors that this could climb up to 200 too! Apart from that, the 150 players may play across any platform: whether it’s console or PC, and pair up in the same lobby.
At launch, solos and duos will be available, with the noticeable absence of ‘four-man squads’ which will be replaced by the three-man squads like in Apex Legends. While these aspects may sound familiar, Cal of Duty Warzone is innovating with its take on battle-royale:
- ‘Cash’ allows players to purchase powerful in-game items such as killstreaks, self-revive and even teammates back in the map! Such transactions take place at ‘Buy Stations’. Cash is everything in Call of Duty: Warzone and you can earn them through frags and share them with your teammates
- Killstreaks – only three killstreaks are present and not necessarily earned by kills, but by buying or looting and for now include a UAV (surveillance around you) and an Air and Missile strike
- Loadouts allow up to two weapons at one time, one lethal and one tactical only
- Rarity tiers of weapons do not affect the base damage like in other titles such as Fortnite, but add more attachments randomly
- Being eliminated doesn’t mean you’re out – in the early game, you can earn your chance to get back in through The Gulag: a 1v1 arena where you’ll fight another unsuccessful gamer. Unlike other BRs, this adds an element of skill to fight your way back in; unless your teammate buys you back in the game of course.
- Automatic health regeneration – yep, self-healing items are gone, as Activision wants everybody facing off with no inhibitions thanks to the usual fluctuating 100Hp. Armour is still here, allowing players to bump up the number to 250Hp.
- The circle will close in via gas which can be fought off with gas masks which allow temporary immunity
- The map is patched together with classic Call of Duty remakes.
- Players load into each game with a pistol, and not a knife
Call of Duty: Warzone goes on to offer something unique to its players: apart from the traditional battle-royale experience, a separate game mode of ‘Plunder’ will also be offered to players. Slightly more casual, the goal of this mode is to, well, plunder. Attempting to gather $1 million has never been so hectic; as kills, destruction and any notable achievement in-game garners yourself, or the team, money which can be dropped if killed or deposited. Respawning in will allow you to keep fighting until it’s all over.
Where and How to Download CoD: Warzone!
It’s free to download and play – nope, you don’t need anything; no copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, no Playstation Plus, and no download code. The title is completely accessible to anyone on all platforms: Playstation users through the PlayStore and PC users through steam to go about your Call of Duty Warzone download as it’s a completely separate game. Those who own Modern Warfare will be able to select Warzone from the Main Menu.
When does Warzone release?
Today, Tuesday 10th March at midday in certain regions but this will vary depending on where you live. Everyone has the opportunity to download the Call of Duty Warzone preload: as it’s worth noting that the file for Call of Duty Warzone is quite large in terms of size.
You’re going to want to download this game – with battle-royale, in general, slowing down, as Fortnite and Apex Legends communities slowly grow tired, a fresh injection of the gameplay Call of Duty Warzone looks to bring seems to be destined to succeed. Unlike Blackout, everyone can play it for absolutely free – it’s this accessibility which gives the title an incredible potential.
