Indeed, those are the ten official Call of Duty League rosters so far! Accordingly, there are a tonne of predictions as we head back into the mix next year.
Once we have the full list of 12 teams, we’ll work on a power ranking system for all of them. Until then, here’s a small summary:
Favourites – Atlanta FaZe, Dallas Empire, OpTic Chicago
It’s no surprise that the top three teams from last season are fan favourites heading into the next year. Managers and team owners have done their best to secure the best 4 players while dropping 1 player.
Back in September of 2019, Hector “H3CZ” Rodriguez announced that he was leaving OpTic Gaming behind due to him having to sell the brand to “Immortals Gaming Club”. After this announcement he immediately revealed that he will be joining NRG and establishing the Chicago Huntsmen as NRG’sCall of Duty team. During their first season, the team did pretty well overall, finishing in 3rd place at the Call of Duty League 2020 Playoffs.
Without OpTic, H3CZ was feeling that small space of emptiness, and he knew that he had to do everything in his power to get the organization back in the palm of his hands. And that is exactly what he did. With this acquisition, the Chicago Huntsmen brand is no more, and NRG will be represented by OpTic Chicago heading into the 2021 season.
Community reaction?
It is very clear that the fans aren’t the only ones happy with the rebirth of the OpTic Gaming brand. Even the players themselves have also expressed how they felt about the move:
The deal has been a long time coming. OpTic is nothing without H3CZ and its core members. And seeing the brand itself back in the COD scene is amazing to see. Hopefully the return hype is not the only type of news we’ll see from them this year as they seek out more championships in the 2021 season!
100 Thieves have just announced that they will be signing Tommey as their first ever Warzone professional player. Here is their announcement:
This news does not come as a big surprise after their recent announcement that they are returning to the COD League as the LA Thieves. Alongside their return announcement, they mentioned that they will also be entering other Call of Duty titles, namely Warzone and Cod mobile.
100 Thieves signing Tommey as their first Warzone player – Who is Tommey?
Since then, he took his free time, and spent it on Call of Duty’s battle royale game mode, Warzone. In fact, with Tommey’s continuous improvement, he and three others (Almxnd, ChrisMorales59, mbridges) managed to win the Twitch Rivals FaZe Face-off.
Why is this big news?
With Call of Duty’s incoming patch, Warzone will be growing exponentially due to the custom lobbies which will be implemented very soon. This is a sign from the developers, that the game is far from dead, and that they’re trying to build an esports scene around it.
We will definitely be seeing more signings with regards to 100 Thieves, as well as for all the other professional Warzone players, as the game is only in its infancy, and will surely be growing rapidly.

Infinity Ward have revealed that they will be releasing patch 1.29 for Call of Duty. This patch will consist of multiple updates and changes, however, the highlight change is the addition of private matches to Warzone. Here below are the patch notes for version 1.29:
What will the Private matches entail?
Infinity Ward have stated that this is only a Beta for their Warzone private matches, which means that the system may still not be perfect, and might need some adjusting after a couple of days. The Private matches for Warzone consist of 3 different modes: Battle Royale, Plunder, and Mini BR. Battle Royale, which will be the main game mode for most, will require a minimum of 50 players for a game to start. Plunder on the other hand will only require 30 players to start a game. This will probably opt for a more casual and fun type of game mode. And lastly, we have Mini BR, which will probably be more suited for players that would like to play a solo-type Battle royale, as it only requires 24 players to start a game.
Why is this big news?
It’s always amazing news whenever you hear that a Battle Royale will be receiving custom lobbies. This is because of many reasons, some being content, a way of interaction between a streamer and his fans; however, I personally think that the biggest reason is because of the esports potential that a battle royale like Warzone has. The game is simple to understand, easy to get into, but also has that high ceiling that not every player can reach.
Hopefully with this new patch, more Warzone tournaments will be getting hosted, so that the esports side of things, with regards to Warzone, continues to expand and grow.
As mentioned in our previous article, 100 Thieves have finally acquired OpTic’s CDL spot, and are returning to Call of Duty heading into 2021. The move has been requested by many fans, especially die hard Call of Duty fans. With Nadeshot being an icon of the esport, it’s almost impossible to not have him around, and as he describes in their post-announcement video, 100 Thieves is never leaving Call of Duty again.
If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s a video of 100 Thieves president, John Robinson and CEO, Nadeshot, discussing their plans with the LA Thieves, heading into Call of Duty:
What’s next?
In the video they discuss that they are planning to expand into other Call of Duty titles. Meaning that they will have a dedicated Warzone team, as well as a CoD Mobile team. Having an esports organization such as 100 Thieves investing into Cod Mobile is definitely helpful when it comes to expanding mobile esports as a genre. We cannot wait to see what else the organization has in planned in the coming future.
We’ve already seen 100 Thieves being quite successful in Call of Duty with their 2018-2019 roster, winning both CWL Anaheim 2019 and CWL London 2019 they can only hope of achieving similar success with their newest roster.
The competitive CallofDuty scene itches excitedly to for the next title. Accordingly, professionals will be looking to get practising for the next competitive season. That brings us to another CoDLeagueRostermania update – read on for the latest roster changes announced!
Although some rosters remain cloudy, so to speak, most of the franchises have announced a team so far. We’ll be going by franchised team like always.
CoD League Rostermania – 05/11

“Loony” joining from Toronto Ultra
New York Subliners – CoD League Rostermania Highlight

A tonne of new talent is joining the roster: “SillY” and “Assault” from Minnesota Rokkr will be joined by “Apathy” from Seattle Surge
Formation of an academy team: “Chino”, “MentaL”, “Exceed” and “Nero”
London Royal Ravens
Resigning of “Dylan” and “Zer0″
Accordingly, joined by new talent in “Alexx”
Indeed, those are the main changes so far. As a reminder, for the CDL 2021 season, organizations are being forced to drop one player each. This is what has resulted in a frenzy of decisions.
A tonne of announcements are still rumoured to be up the pipeline.
According to a report by Dexerto, the prominent North American organization known as 100 Thieves are set to return to the CDL as the LA Thieves. Here below is a link to their report:
100 Thieves set to return to CDL –How and why?
Before we go over the how and why, we must go back in time to when they first announced that they will be parting ways with their COD roster. Back in August of 2019, 100 Thieves CEO Nadeshot, announced that they will not compete in the 2020 season. The sole reason was that there were too many upfront costs and careers at stake, and the organization was not prepared to make that jump and make that decision.
Fast forward to 2020, OpTic Gaming has being reacquired by Hector “H3CZ” Rodriguez. This meant that NRG (Chicago Huntsmen) would own two spots in the Call of Duty League. According to the regulations of the CDL, this is not allowed as one person can only have ownership of one team in the league. This is why Hector is placing the CDL spot on sale, and this is what’s catching Nadeshot’s attention.
A few weeks ago, 100 Thieves announced that they will be withdrawing from CS:GO for a second time. And this is why it’s a perfect time for the organization to re-enter the COD League.
What will the roster look like?
According to the report linked above, if the deal does go through, their roster will consist of:
The team is currently under OpTic Gaming Los Angeles, so all they will be doing is shifting orgs due to the CDL spot. Slasher and Kuavo Kenny have already played for the organization, so they will certainly feel at home if the deal does eventually go through.
It will be very exciting to see such an amazing organization like 100 Thieves re-entering the COD scene. Especially after the great memories they left behind.

Following our featured article of Tips and Tricks for Rainbow SixSiege, here at esportsguide we’re moving on. Indeed, our next title is also a first-person-shooter, being one of the most popular in the world. Accordingly, here are our Call of Duty Tips and Tricks to help you gain the advantage and understand the game better.
Mechanical Skills
One stark difference lies between Rainbow Six Siege and Call of Duty – the competitive platform. While R6S is focused on the PC community through mouse and keyboard, Call of Dutyis played competitively on a controller.
Mastering mechanical aim will differ here. It’s a matter of mastering the few buttons on a controller while coordinating multiple actions, here are some tips:
Finding the correct grip: different grips suit certain playstyles. Standard grip is positioning your palms around the grips, thumbs pressing on the facial buttons with index and middle fingers on the triggers. Other grips include Claw, which can allow for better in-game movement – it’s worth experimenting here
Changing the button layout and customizing controllers – professional grade controllers with additional paddles and buttons while assigning different buttons can help out tremendously
Experiment with the sensitivity of the analogue sticks – controller players can’t be as accurate as PC players. That’s where adjusting sensitivity comes into play.
Mastering the movement – each title has varying movement and combining this with precise aim is essential
A common saying in the professional community is ‘shoot a thousand bots a day’ – aim may be improved by practising against AI in custom games. I recommend you try it out.
In-Game Knowledge and Awareness
With Call of Duty, it’s not all about pointing and shooting at fast-moving targets. One can have incredible mechanical aim, but fail to grasp the in-game knowledge and awareness. Year after year, competitive Call of Dutymakes use of different game modes.
Here are some tips behind in-game awareness across multiple game modes:
Understand and master the maps – you need to know each corner of the map. This involves knowing the standard rotations for Hardpoint, bomb sites for Search and Destroy and flags for Domination.
Mastering the spawning system – each CoD utilizes spawn logic. To make the most of an in-game objective, it’s essential for your team to spawn as close as possible to it. By positioning yourself in key positions, these can shape the outcome of a game.
Proper utilization of lethals and tactical equipment
Making proper use of specialist abilities at the right time
Clutching up in Search and Destroy: high-stress situations require the right play at the right time.
Keep up to date with the meta changes – gun balances can shift which weapon is ideal in any situation.
Stay up to date with the competitive scene and watch competitive games
Personal and Interpersonal – Call of Duty Tips and Tricks
Probably a highlight of our Call of DutyTips and Tricks is the personal and interpersonal segment. The professional scene is notorious for being vocal, embracing trash-talk, raging and screaming across the stage.
As a player, someone who’s serious about their performance will want to focus on some tips:
Communicate with your teammates – offer valuable information such as the location of enemies, their amount of health and observable enemy movements
Do not ego challenge – engage in clever gunfights, trade out your teammate’s death and don’t be over-aggressive.
Learn from teammates and find your role accordingly – being a main assault rifle, submachine gun player or a flex will require coordination with the team
Tips and Tricks will vary due to the fact that Call of Dutychanges every year. Yearly releases mean that players have to adapt to changing of in-game mechanics and other notable information.
Officially, 14th September marked the announcement of the new Call of Duty League season. Regardless, the ongoing rostermania isn’t dying down any time soon. Since our first update from last week, a tonne of changes have grasped the community. Let’s take another look at CoD League Rostermania!
Just like last week, we’ll be going with moves which have been officially confirmed and avoiding speculation entirely. Also, we’ve sorted all the decisions by team to make it simpler.

Indeed, note that below we’ll only be listing confirmed moves, avoiding speculation. Chiefly, all of this movement has been inspired by the change back to 4v4. Accordingly, each franchised team must drop at least one player. Some massive decisions have already been made.

All in all, it’s a lot to take in. In general, many more changes are expected. While some teams are only dropping one player, others are rebuilding. Certain organizations have been quiet, while others are not hiding anything.
In sum, that’s all for now. That is, we’ll be updating changes every week.
