Valve still eyeing on Stockholm for CS:GO Major

According to popular CS:GO platform HLTV, Valve are still eyeing on Stockholm as their main location for the first CS:GO Major in 2021. Here’s all you need to know:

Valve still eyeing on Stockholm for CS:GO Major – What happened?

In a recent announcement by Valve regarding The International 10, they state that Sweden is no longer an option to host the prestigious event. Apparently, the Swedish Sports Federation denied the acceptance of esports into the sports federation. This directly affects the restrictions currently residing in Sweden and disallows any sort of mass event to happen in Swedish borders.

Community Reaction

The community didn’t take the disappointing news lightly. Everyone has been excited for this Major to take place, and it seems like we’re getting another delay. Much like Dota 2 fans, CS:GO enthusiasts are looking forward to these huge and historic events.

Stockholm CS:GO Major 2021

Ofcourse, everyone knows that Sweden is one of many homes of CS:GO competition. The country has bred some of the largest legends we know now, and is still delivering some top tier talent. Stockholm, Sweden, would’ve been the perfect destination for the return of CS:GO majors. In the end, we’ll just have to wait and see if Valve manages to either sort the ruling out with the Swedish government or find another destination to host the event.

Daps returning to CS:GO as Evil Geniuses Coach

Former NRG VALORANT Pro player Daps has just announced that he is returning to CS:GO as the Evil Geniuses  Coach. Here is their announcement:

Daps returning to CS:GO as Evil Geniuses Coach – Who is he?

Damian “daps” Steele is professional esports player who had formerly retired from CS:GO and went to VALORANT. He started his CS career in 2012 with Dynamo Gaming, and then went on to represent Gen.G in 2020. In September of that same year, he revealed that he was retiring to play VALORANT. He then played for NRG from October 2020, till June 2021. Many would argue that he didn’t find much success after his retirement, which triggered his desire to return to CS:GO.

What about EG’s former coach?

Early in June, it was made public that Zews was no longer coaching Evil Geniuses. This was because of “a difference of opinion regarding the team’s direction”, according to sources. Zews had been coaching the team since April of 2020, and has been with the team during their best moments. Now Daps looks to continue on Zews’ work and aid Evil Geniuses into the success they once had.

What does this mean?

Daps is already familiar with quite a couple of the Evil Geniuses players. This was because he had formerly played with CerQ and Brehze on NRG, and Stanislaw on OpTic. Unfortunately he doesn’t have the pleasure to be alongside Ethan, Tarik or Fugly, but he can certainly do some work with this new lineup.

On the other hand, Heroic got their spot from winning the 13th season of ESL Pro League.

Event details

In fact, the qualifications for the spot are acquired through wins at big events. Such as: BLAST Premier Fall Finals, EPL S14, as well as the PGL Stockholm Major. Three spots will also be given toward the top 3 teams in the Global Leaderboard.

The BLAST Premier World Final 2021 will take place between the 14th and 19th of December. Meaning that it’s going to be quite a long time till we actually come to see this event into fruition.

Gambit Esports win BLAST Premier Spring Final 2021 – How did they do it?

Bracket

Gambit started their tournament run in the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals against Evil Geniuses. They proved to be a formidable opponent at first, but eventually it was Gambit that moved on with a 2-0 win. Next up was the European squad of Complexity, which also showed promise, but ultimately, Hobbit and co cleaned up nicely with a 2-0 series win.

Then came their CIS brothers Natus Vincere in the Upper Bracket Final. Gambit took the first map 16-14, but lost Ancient immediately after 16-7. However on Mirage they regained their strength as they finished with a 16-7 scoreline in their favour.

Grand Final

After dropping Natus Vincere to the lower bracket final, the Na’Vi squad won against G2 esports. This meant that Na’Vi were in a rematch against Gambit in the Grand Finals. Here, the maps chosen were Dust II and Mirage, two very good maps for both teams. Gambit started it all with a dominant Terrorist side, getting 10 rounds to Na’Vi’s 5. This made it even easier for them to close out the game, and obviously win it out (16-12). Mirage was next, and Gambit’s dominance was shown clearly here. Gambit won the half 8-7, and went on to win another 8 rounds on CT to finish it off and be crowned champions. This is how it ended:

Ence parting ways with Allu, Hades to replace

Finnish organisation Ence Esports has just announced that it is parting ways with Allu. Here is their announcement:

Ence parting ways with Allu – Why?

Back in May it revealed that Allu would be taking a short break from competitive play. With his absence, the team managed to win the LOOTBET Season 9 event, and was improving tremendously. He does not mention the exact reason for his departure, but after the team’s win it was expected.

Here are Allu’s best achievements with Ence:

  • 2nd in IEM Katowice Major 2019 – 3rd March 2019 – $150,000
  • 1st at BLAST Pro Series: Madrid 2019 – 11th May 2019 – $125,000
  • 1st in StarSeries & i-League CS:GO Season 6 – 14th October 2018 – $125,000

This is what, Niklas “Willkey” Ojalainen, General Manager said about the move:

“In May, after we heard about the need for allu to take time off from competing, our CS:GO team was put into an awkward position, where their future was not completely clear. This is, of course, a situation we don’t want to keep our players in. We have been practising and playing with hades, and he has shown great potential and results already. We want to give him the shot he deserves in our roster. By doing this, we cement our roster once again and can fully concentrate on improving and moving forward.”

Who are they getting as a replacement?

To replace the Finnish awper, Ence are bringing on Olek “hades” Miskiewicz. He is 21 years of age and a professional player from Poland and started his career in 2018. For the most part he played with Polish teams. But now he’s switching it up by joining Ence as an international team.

Current state of BLAST Premier Spring Final 2021

We’re 4 days into the BLAST’s most recent event, and we’ve already seen a couple of upsets happening. Here is the current state of BLAST Premier Spring Final 2021 and how it all went down:

Current state of BLAST Premier Spring Final 2021 – Who was eliminated?

As can be seen in the tweet above, FaZe Clan and Evil Geniuses were the very first teams to be eliminated. Let’s take a closer look:

Evil Geniuses

Evil Geniuses started the event against the tournament favourites, Gambit Esports. All props to EG for making it a close series, but unfortunately they didn’t manage to beat the IEM Summer Champs. They then dropped to the losers bracket against NiP, and once again lost to a 2-0 scoreline.

FaZe Clan

FaZe on the other hand also had a tough opponent at the beginning of the tournament. They started out strong winning the first map of the series, but what followed were 2 close matches that just barely got out of reach for the international lineup. After that loss, they met against G2 in the lower bracket, and once again they played a close series. Eventually it was G2 that took the win, and just like that FaZe were eliminated too.

What’s next?

As it stands, Gambit and Natus Vincere will be battling it out in the Upper Bracket Final. With regards to the lower bracket, we’ve got BIG taking on NiP, and CoL against G2. These are going to be some super exciting matches so be sure not to miss any!

BLAST Premier Fall Final taking place with a live audience

Tournament organizer BLAST have just revealed that the BLAST Premier Fall Final will take place in an arena with a live audience. Here is their announcement:

BLAST Premier Fall Final – Event Details

Not much has been revealed just yet, as we’re still very far from the event taking place. So far what we know is that the tournament will consist of a $425,000 prize pool, and will play out between the 23rd and 28th of November. The main format for the event will be a double elimination bracket where each series features a best of 3. Much like every other BLAST Final, the tournament participants will consist of the very top teams around the world. These teams will have to qualify through the Fall Groups, as well as the Fall Showdown.

Why is this big news?

Obviously due to the pandemic, mass events were quite literally banned from the face of the earth. Esports wasn’t the only industry to suffer from the pandemic, but other industries as well. Despite LAN and offline events being banned, esports still managed to continue through regional and online platforms. Now we’re reaching a point where the health situation is slowly returning to the norm and we can soon have continuous offline events.

Gambit Esports win IEM Summer 2021 – How did they do it?

Gambit kicked off the tournament with a disappointing start in the group stage. After beating Sprout 16-6, the team lost 2-0 to Team Vitality, and dropped to the lower bracket. Here they took on Astralis first, winning 2-0, and after that, they played against Complexity, which they also won 2-1.

This result got them the qualification for the playoffs spot, and here they played against the North American Evil Geniuses. The series wasn’t as close as anyone expected, and Gambit won both maps (Dust II 16-10, Overpass 16-11). They then met against G2 Esports in the Semifinals, and that was also a disappointing series out of the European squad. Gambit won the series 2-0 to get into the Grand Finals against OG Esports.

Grand Finals

This is one of very few times we’ve seen this OG esports lineup reach the Grand Finals stage. That alone was already a solid achievement, and if they had won, it would have been their first ever big win. Unfortunately this was not meant to be. Gambit Esports had an exceptional performance, winning the Grand Finals with a straight clean 3-0. Here’s how the final round played out:

Popular betting company Betway has announced that it is partnering with European org G2 Esports. Here is their announcement:

Betway partnering with G2 Esports – What will it consist of?

As you may know, Betway Esports creates some of the most iconic and original content out there when it comes to CS:GO. Usually they do such content with their sponsored teams and partners, and they will be doing the exact same thing with G2 Esports. This aid in content creation will aid both the team and betway in growing in every way possible.

At the time of writing, Betway is sponsoring multiple sports-related companies. This list varies from Football, to horse racing, and to esports. One of their most recognizable sponsors is BLAST Premier, one of CS:GO’s most popular tournament organisers. Along with that, Betway Esports also sponsors numerous teams, namely: MiBR, NiP, BIG, and also Furia.

G2 has had a great couple of months recently with regards to partnerships. Just recently, they have partnered with Bondly, and earlier in 2021 they partnered with popular sports company Adidas.
