OG using NBK for EPL match versus Heroic

OG have announced that they are using one of their benched players, NBK, for their EPL (ESL Pro League) match versus Heroic. Here is their announcement:

OG using NBK for EPL match versus Heroic – Why?

On the 26th of February, OG announced the benching of NBK. Despite no reason being revealed, the change was inevitable due to poor results in a majority of all the events they’ve taken part in.

As a replacement, OG have brought on Nikolaj “niko” Kristensen, ironically, from Heroic. Niko is a skilled fragger, and even though he might not be what OG needs right now, he can definitely deal some damage in the long run. With Aleksib as their main in-game leader, the team is in safe hands, but time will tell if the project works or not. Now NBK has one last stand with the team versus one of their main rivals, Heroic.

MATCH UPDATE

The series between OG and Heroic ended 2-1 in favour of the Danes. Heroic won Mirage (16-6) and Overpass (16-6), whereas OG only managed to win Train (16-10). NBK ended up finishing with a 42/56 K/D, averaging around 71.9 damage per round.

G2 Esports Benching KennyS; Bring Back JaCkz

G2 Esports have just announced that they are benching KennyS from the main CS:GO roster. Here’s everything you need to know about it:

G2 Esports Benching KennyS – Why?

G2 Esports did not state the main reason for the change, however they do address that they had long discussions with the entire team beforehand. It’s no secret that G2 haven’t had their best period recently. In the past 4 months, their best result was a 5th/6th placement at the BLAST Premier: Global Final 2020. After that, they’ve had consistent 7th/8th and 9th-12th placements. Certainly not something that the team is wishing for.

This is what coach maLeK had to say about the change:

“Kenny is a pillar within G2 and a legend in the scene. We’ve shared incredible moments and memories together. We all all feel that, though difficult, a new home for him will be a great opportunity to remain at the top. We are excited to have JACKZ return to the team, bringing his flair, creativity and a new balance to the team.”

What will this change mean for the CS:GO lineup?

With G2 recently acquiring NiKo from FaZe, the team was listed as a 6man roster. However with the benching of KennyS coming through, the team is back to 5 active members, that include JaCkz. He was originally benched from the team, but now he’s in a perfect position to aid G2 in getting back to the top of their game.

We’ll have to wait and see how well G2 Esports adapt to their changes, and if they’ll manage to get their pace up to par before their next big event!

OG Expected to make roster changes after disappointing results

European organisation OG  is expected to make a couple of roster changes after their recent disappointing results. Here’s our thoughts on the entire situation:

Screenshot
Credits: BLAST

Origins of the OG roster

OG first signed their roster back in December of 2019. The announcement went viral, as it was huge to see an organisation like OG, which has won two Internationals in Dota 2, entering Counter-Strike. When they first announced the squad, the community didn’t really think that this squad of five could actually dominate like other squads, namely Astralis, Natus Vincere and Vitality. However, they could certainly solidify themselves as one of the best European teams.

Unfortunately, 1 year after entering the esport, their best achievements were minimal. No big wins, only solid placements at minor events.

Here are some of their best results in 2020:

  • 2nd at Flashpoint Season 2 – 6th December 2020 – $250,000
  • 4th/6th at BLAST Premier: Spring 2020 Regular Season – 16th February 2020 – $35,000
  • 6th in ESL Pro League Season 11: Europe – 9th April 2020 – $31,000
  • 2nd in Intel Extreme Masters XV – New York Online: Europe – 11th October 2020 – $30,000

As you can see above, they still had some solid results, but not one that is feasible for a huge organisation such as OG.

OG Expected to make roster changes after disappointing results

Now in their most recent event, IEM Katowice 2021, the team was eliminated by FaZe during the Group Stage of the event. The team had a lot of potential heading into the event, especially after beating Fnatic 16-9 in the Play-ins, but unfortunately it was not enough. In fact, YNk, CS:GO analyst had to take it to twitter to express his opinions about OG’s recent results:

It’s going to be disappointing to see an organisation like OG hobbling around due to no changes within the squad. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how long OG’s management can be patient with their results.

But until then, be sure to tune into www.esportsguide.com for more esports news!

Team Spirit and Team Liquid Dominate IEM Katowice

This past weekend we saw Team Spirit and Team Liquid dominate Europe at IEM Katowice. They have taken down some of the best teams currently, and are in a prime position to take the win. Here’s how it all happened:

Team Spirit and Team Liquid Dominate IEM Katowice – How?

Group A

Team Spirit kicked off the event with an astonishing victory over the international G2 squad. They then moved upward to play versus Heroic, in which they won 2-0 to get to the next stage. This is where it got tough for Chopper and co, as Astralis was next up. Despite Astralis being the clear favourites, Team Spirit proved everyone wrong by winning the series 2-1. They even won the third and final map 16-1, a heartbreaking result for all Danish fans. With this win, Team Spirit not only got into the playoffs, but were already placed in the semifinals.

Group B

On the other group, Team Liquid started their bracket journey versus their recent rivals, FaZe Clan. Team Liquid were the eventual winners, after securing the series victory 2-0. Then came the Frenchmen of Vitality, and after a hectic series, the blues were victorious, 2-1. Lastly, Team Liquid had to beat Natus Vincere to place 1st in their group and get the highest seed. After 3 grueling matches, Team Liquid came out on top, winning the series 2-1.

What’s next?

With IEM reaching its conclusion, and the playoffs kicking off later this week, we can expect some insane matches coming. Will Astralis and Natus Vincere hold their ground, or will they concede to an up and coming top team such as Spirit or Liquid

Changes to CS:GO maps; Ping bug fixed

Yesterday, Valve tweeted out that they are introducing multiple changes to current CS:GO maps. Here’s a quick rundown of what they did:

This patch might not be the biggest with regards to content, but it goes to show that Valve are caring for these newly added maps. The main changes that were made were bug fixes (glitched audio queues) and map exploits (wallbangs and unintended boosts).

Detailed changes to CS:GO maps:

Anubis

  • Reskinned the signs and information boards.
  • Fixed the wallbang through the trim on the mid building between the double door and the CT house.
  • Added some grenade clips to prevent weird grenades bouncing on A heaven.

Engage

  • Fixed several visual issues.
  • Removed boost spots.
  • Updated Bot NAV.

Apollo

  • Multiple exploits, clipping faults and boosts.
  • Fixed spawn boost exploit.
  • Blocked guns going out of CT spawn so much with a big sign.

Frostbite

  • Removed window glass from buildings to improve gameplay
  • Exploit in Town fixed
  • Stuck spots fixed
  • Certain visual errors fixed
  • Adjusted border clipping
  • Fixed floating exploding barrel/turret spawns
  • Adjusted prop fade distance in the bunker
  • Added drone clips to buildings at Tourist and Radio

Is that all the news?

The recent ping bug that emerged, is also fixed and updated. When the ping system was first introduced, it was widely appreciated by the entire CS:GO community. The main purpose for such a feature was to improve communication between teammates. Seeing it being abused to highlight enemies was very disappointing to see.

Heroic acquired by Omaken

Popular Danish CS:GO team Heroic has just announced that they’ve been acquired by Norwegian organisation Omaken. Here is their announcement:

Heroic acquired by Omaken – Who and what is Omaken?

Omaken Sports, prior to the partnership, was a PUBG roster consisting of a British player and 2 Finnish players. The team had some pretty good results in 2020. Most notably, a 2nd place at Global Loot League Season 4 and a 4th in PUBG Continental Series 1: Europe.

What will the partnership consist of?

Previously, Heroic was just a CS:GO team filled with Danish players that were waiting to get picked up by another serious organisation. However, following their incredible success in 2020, Omaken saw this as an opportunity to pair up with the Danes and create a world leading esports organization.

Heroic CS:GO team captain Casper “cadiaN” Møller said the following:

“I am super excited about our new future. With Omaken acquiring Heroic, we will have some really strong investors in the project that are hungry to develop us and the esports scene. The vision of a Scandinavian power house is super exciting to be a part of, and to be part of it from the start is something me and my teammates are incredibly proud of. I think this is a big applause to the work the organization and team has done throughout the last years. We are not aiming at mediocrity.”

Heroic / Omaken’s next plans is to start signing talented individuals and teams in popular esport titles. Some also hinted at Rocket League or VALORANT being the first.

This is such great news and we can’t wait to see what their future plans are. But be sure to keep yourself notified whenever they announce them as we will be covering all the news, here on www.esportsguide.com!

Team Liquid plow through teams during IEM Katowice XV

If you’ve been watching IEM Katowice XV, you’ve already seen what the event has to offer. One of the most surprising things however, was that Team Liquid actually managed to plow through several solid teams, and have now qualified for the main event of IEM Katowice XV.

Team Liquid plow through teams during IEM Katowice XV – How did they do it?

They started it all off with a hectic match between themselves and MiBR’s newest squad. Eventually, the boys in blue grabbed a 16-12 victory over the brazilians and advanced onto the next stage.

Team Liquid were then matched against OG’s international squad in a best of 3. Map 1 (Mirage) went over to Liquid seamlessly, as they won 16-7. The 2nd map however, (Overpass) was much tougher, and favoured the OG roster (16-7). For their final map, Liquid were tested on Nuke, one of the maps they were struggling the most throughout 2020. Nonetheless, they played it well, and managed to clutch out the win (16-14) and qualification spot.

What’s next?

Team Liquid’s next step is to dominate during the group stage to solidify a placement in the tournament playoffs. They are not the clear favourites heading into the coming stages of the event, but can certainly shake things up with FalleN being their newest addition!
