Nitr0 to step down from Team Liquid – Grim to join in his stead

Yesterday, esports journalist for DBLTAP, Dekay, released a report identifying that Team Liquid will be making a major shake up in their CS:GO roster. The report entailed that their longest standing player Nicholas “nitr0” Cannella will be getting replaced by Triumph’s Michael “Grim” Wince. Here below is a link to Dekay’s report:

Dekay’s report on Team Liquid nitr0

The report was backed up by a tweet from nitr0 himself, a few moments after the report was released. His tweet:

Community reaction

This news shook the entire community, especially Team Liquid fans, so much so that Team Liquid co-Ceo, Steve Archancet released a video on twitter to clarify the situation:

Team Liquid co-Ceo, Steve Archancet speaking about the situation

Nitr0 has been playing under the Team Liquid organization since the 13th of January of 2015, so it will be very sad to see him leaving the organization, or stepping down from professional Counter-Strike.

Who is Grim?

Michael “Grim” Wince is an up and coming player who is determined to showcase his abilities in CS:GO. He’s played under multiple organizations and teams such as: SoaR, Dignitas, Spacestation, and most recently, Triumph. Most of his achievements were with the Triumph roster and he’s looking to grab more wins, under Team Liquid.

CS:GO’s latest update – Changes to Trusted Mode, 2 new maps and more

Valve have just released their patch notes for their recent CS:GO update. In this patch there are updates regarding “Trusted Mode”, maps, some changes to gameplay, and more bug fixes. Here below is the full list of updates and changes in the newest patch for CS:GO:

[ TRUSTED MODE ]

  • Trusted Mode is now the default launch mode for CS:GO.
  • Previous Trusted Mode launch options have been deprecated.
  • Instead, a new compatibility launch option “-allow_third_party_software” is provided to allow third party software to access the CS:GO game process.
  • For more information about Trusted Mode please refer to the following Knowledge Base article here.

[ MAPS ]

  • Added Mutiny and Swamp to official matchmaking in Casual, Deathmatch, and Scrimmage game modes.
  • Chlorine and Jungle have been removed from official matchmaking.

[ GAMEPLAY ]

  • Grenades now convey the correct amount of damage to teammates if thrown by another teammate who switched teams or disconnected.
  • Decoy grenade explosions no longer damage teammates by default. (controlled via convar ff_damage_decoy_explosion)

[ MISC ]

  • Fixed bsp-embedded models caching rules to allow for reloading the correct model when transitioning to a different map.
  • Capped view model backfaces on Desert Eagle.
  • Fixed workshop workbench texture regeneration on low shader quality GPU configurations.
  • Minor adjustments to Danger Zone delivery drone behavior for Steam Workshop Danger Zone maps.

Main Changes

The main change in this patch is the newly introduced “Trusted Mode” which will be utilized to reduce the amount of cheaters in the game. Despite Valve’s effort to reduce cheating in CS:GO, it seems like Trusted Mode might have increased the amount of cheaters, according to several players. This is a very big issue as this was supposed to be a very big step in order to cleanse CS:GO from any type of cheating.

Another big change for the casual community are the new maps that have been added to the map pool. Chlorine and Jungle have been available for around 4 months and it was about time that Valve had them updated or swapped with other really good maps. Below are images of both of the maps that have been added:

Swamp

Mutinyy

The controversial Trusted Mode is an ongoing topic as CS:GO’s main issue has always been its cheaters. Hopefully in due time, Valve manages to find a way to cope with all the cheating involved, to help make Counter-Strike the game it was meant to be.

BIG ranked #1 in the World in the latest HLTV rankings

Yesterday’s HLTV rankings update has shaken a lot of teams’ placements in the current world rankings. Here are the changes for the top 10 teams:

As you can see, the biggest update to the rankings is BIG climbing up to the number 1 spot. With their recent winnings at DreamHack Masters Spring 2020 and cs_summit 6 Europe it was expected that they would climb the rankings very easily.

Alongside BIG reaching #1 for the first time ever, Xantares was also the first Turkish player to reach the #1 HLTV rankings spot

Another update that is worth noting is that Evil Geniuses have climbed up to 3rd place, which means that they are currently the #1 team in North America. With their recent achievements, winning both BLAST Premier Spring 2020 Americas Finals and cs_summit 6 North America they have easily climbed up in the world rankings.

Online Counter-Strike keeps surprising and it keeps the esport very interesting despite the current situation with no LAN events happening. Will BIG continue their online domination? Or will another European team rise up and take the German squad down? Find out by staying updated with the latest esports news on https://www.esportsguide.com/

Es3tag finally joins Astralis

Back in March, Astralis announced that they will be expanding their roster to 6 players by adding es3tag to their main squad. The main purpose of the addition was due to prioritization of their players’ health. Since then both Gla1ve and Xyp9x have taken leave from CS:GO which meant that JUGi and es3tag will play in their stead.

Why has es3tag joined Astralis so late?

However due to es3tag’s contract he was unavailable to join the roster earlier, however yesterday he was freed from his previous contract and signed by Astralis. Here are a few words from es3tag describing how exciting he is to represent Astralis in future matches:

How will he contribute to the roster?

Es3tag is well known for his fragging power and precise aim, not to mention his experience as a professional player. However due to Astralis’ in-game leader Gla1ve currently on break, is this the right roster move for the squad? Or will this be another one-off swap until they get their main players back in shape?

It will surely be exciting to see how the danish lineup adapts to the new changes and how they will perform after a few weeks of practice. Astralis’ next event is ESL Cologne which is set to start in August, which means that they should be ready to take on the best that Europe has to offer, and return to that number 1 spot.

The Current state of cs_summit 6

cs_summit 6 has been going for almost a week now and we’ve arrived in the second stage of playoffs. During this one week we’ve already seen some major upsets happening during the group stage. Some being the following: G2 losing versus both Godsent and Fnatic in Group A, FaZe losing twice to BIG resulting in them getting 3rd place in groups, and Mousesports getting completely annihilated in Group A by Fnatic and Godsent as well

Upsets aside, we’ve seen a couple of great matches, especially from OG and Team Vitality, both grabbing 1st in their groups respectively. The action continues today with the Upper Bracket Semi-Final and the 1st round of the Lower Bracket. In the Semifinals we have some pretty exciting matches, as Team Vitality will be taking on OG, and Fnatic will be facing off BIG in a best of 3.

Europe has definitely undergone some changes with regards to which teams are dominating the scene right now, and we have online CS to blame for that, however this means new teams are getting the spotlight as they win multiple events.

c0ntact denied 30-minute break by cs_summit admins

The cs_summit regional qualifiers are currently underway, and there was a tiny bit of drama between c0ntact and the cs_summit admins. c0ntact’s coach, Neil Murphy requested that his team should have a 30 minute break at minimum, after having an intense 4 hour series versus Complexity. One of the admins, declined the 30-minute break, insisting that they should proceed with the map veto and get 20 minutes break afterwards (this would result in the team only having around 10 minutes break as usually map vetoes take a long time).

C0ntact kept insisting that they required a 30-minute break as one of the players was feeling unwell, however the admin rejected it once more, emphasising that he is following the rules. C0ntact went on with the veto so they can proceed with their break.

nd

After a while, Neil Murphy contacted another admin to ask him as to why the admins are pushing c0ntact to play without a break. The admin then stated that there was 20 minutes since the preceding match ends, and while they chose not to penalize c0ntact for it, they should have started veto immediately after the earlier match versus Complexity. Neil then mentioned that he has never been treated as bad as this in his 10 year career.

rd

Lately, with news of players taking breaks or retiring, we keep mentioning players’ health and how important it is to keep players at their 100%. This is a clear example of tournament organizers and admins not caring about their players but only caring about their broadcast and overall event. We can only hope that the admins involved were given a better direction of how to handle situations similar to the above and that players are treated better in the future.

BLAST Premier Spring 2020 Recap

The Spring Blast Premier concluded this weekend and we saw Complexity dominate Europe, and Evil Geniuses conquer North America. Here below are the Final winnings + Standings:

  • 4th – $20,000 – Natus Vincere
  • 5th-6th – $15,000 – G2 Esports
  • 5th-6th – $15,000 – Ninjas in Pyjamas

  • 4th – $10,000 – Team Liquid

How did Complexity manage to come out Victorious?

Complexity matched up versus OG in the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals. The match ended with a 2-1 scoreline favoring Complexity. They then progressed to the Upper Bracket Semifinals where they would face one of the strongest teams yet, Natus Vincere. Surprisingly, Complexity managed to win with a convincing 2-1 scoreline and this win let them advance to the Upper Bracket Finals. FaZe were up next, and after 2 very intense matches, Complexity edged out with a 2-0 win.

Meanwhile, Team Vitality were climbing up from the lower bracket, where they would beat NiP 2-0, Na’Vi 2-1, and FaZe 2-0 in the Lower bracket final. This meant that Complexity versus Vitality would be the Final match of the day and the event. The maps picked were, Vertigo, Mirage and Nuke. At first glance you’d think that Vitality would have the edge, due to being more versatile on their map pool, however Complexity responded fiercely. Vertigo ended with a dominant performance from Vitality, winning 16-2, this led to frenchmen to believe that this finals was going to be easy. However despite losing a match like that, Complexity managed to step up in Mirage, winning in overtime, 19-16. The Final match was on Nuke, a map that Vitality were very comfortable on. Complexity had some rough rounds however in the end they managed to win the series 2-1, and they came out victorious during the European Blast Premier Spring.

How did Evil Geniuses win the North American Blast Premier Spring?

Evil Geniuses have been undergoing a lot of controversy lately due to their coach swap early on in 2020. However during BLAST Premier they truly showed what they’re capable of.

EG met with Team Liquid in their first matchup in the Upper Bracket. EG won the best of 3 with a convincing 2-1 score. Meanwhile, MiBR managed to win over Furia, and progress through the Upper Bracket Final alongside EG. The match ended 2-1 in favor of MiBR and they advanced to the Grand Finals.

Evil Geniuses dropped down to the lower bracket where they would meet Furia, and beat them 2-1. Now it was time for a rematch between MiBR and EG. MiBR were showing that with their latest addition of “trk” that they were a much better team and that they just might bounce back in the top 10 HLTV rankings. After a very intense best of 3, EG came out on top, winning the 1st map 16-14 and the 2nd map 19-15.

Predictions

With regards to predictions, it will be very difficult to say due to the current state of professional Counter-Strike. We are currently in a time where any team in the top 10 can beat any other team, which makes the matches very unpredictable but more fun to watch. G2 reaches #1 in the latest HLTV World Rankings Update

In the latest HLTV rankings update we’ve seen a lot of changes due to recent upsets in tournaments and roster changes. G2 have been marked as the official number 1 team as of right now, however it is still in question if they truly deserve that spot.

Full Standings of World Rankings:

As you can see above there are quite a few changes from last week’s HLTV rankings. The biggest changes are FaZe reaching 3rd, Furia climbing 4 places to reach 4th, and BIG with an astonishing 16 place increase to get into 8th.

FaZe have been performing really well lately, and even though they are not winning events, they are still placing very highly. Their most recent placement was 3rd in DreamHack Masters Spring.

Furia have also climbed the ranks by dominating the North American Counter-Strike scene. Their most recent victory was at DreamHack Masters Spring, defeating Team Liquid 2-0 in the Grand Finals.

Before being crowned champions of DreamHack Masters Spring, BIG were placed at 24th, however they defied all odds and dominated Europe to reach 8th place.

What about the #1 team? Do they think they deserve their spot?

G2 have embraced that they’re not a perfect team, and even though they’ve made a couple of mistakes, they have been quite consistent when performing versus the top teams. Here below are some of their placement over the past few events:

  • 1st place at BLAST Premier Spring Series 2020 (Jan 31st – Feb 16th)
  • 2nd place at IEM Katowice (Feb 24th – Mar 1st)
  • 2nd place in ESL One: Road to Rio (Apr 22nd – May 17th)
  • 2nd Place in DreamHack Masters Spring (May 19th – Jun 14th)

The gap between the top 10 teams is very small, and basically anyone that wins the next tournament will most probably be in the top 3 or even first. Online CS has definitely impacted professional Counter-Strike, but it doesn’t mean it’s all that bad. The next event lined up is BLAST Premier Spring 2020 Europe Finals and it will be very exciting to see who will take the victory.
