Na’Vi Dota 2 roster changes – adding No[o]ne and SoNNeikO

It has been announced that Na’Vi are making some Dota 2 roster changes heading into the AniMajor. Here is the announcement:

Na’Vi Dota 2 roster changes – Who did they sign?

23-year-old Vladimir “No[o]ne” Minenko started his Dota 2 career back in 2014 with Ursastroithram. Just recently he was a part of the Virtus.Pro lineup, as well as the AS Monaco Gambit Squad. However now he has his eyes set on winning some trophies with the Russian Na’Vi lineup.

On the other hand Akbar “SoNNeikO” Butaev kicked it all off in 2014 as well. Ironically, he was part of Natus Vincere for a short period between early 2015 and later that year. He then left to play for Vega Squadron, and returned  to Na’Vi in 2017. Throughout the next 2 years, he went from inactive to starting positions multiple times. Afterwards, he left to play for other teams, but now he has returned to Na’Vi.

This is how the new Na’Vi lineup looks like:

Players:

  • Alik “V-Tune” Vorobey
  • Vladimir “No[o]ne” Minenko
  • Roman “RAMZES666” Kushnarev
  • Vladimir “RodjER” Nikogosyan
  • Akbar “SoNNeikO” Butaev

Coach:

  • Andrey “Mag” Chipenko

Manager:

  • Sergey “AnahRoniX” Bikovskiy

What will happen to the other players?

This roster change means that Andrii “ALWAYSWANNAFLY” Bondarenko and Bogdan “Iceberg” Vasilenko will depart the team. As of right now we do not know what their future plans are, but we’re sure to get an update some time soon.

Na’Vi COO, Aleksey “xaoc” Kucherov said this about the changes:

“In Dota, the working atmosphere within the team plays an important role. Despite the replacement just before the start of this season and numerous attempts to keep the squad together, we were unable to show consistently good results. Discussions with the guys led to the conclusion that the squad in its current form won’t continue playing together and, therefore, changes are inevitable. We would like to thank Bogdan and Andrey for their dedication, hard work and positive emotions.”

Unfortunately due to the pandemic, the government of Kyiv disallowed any public gatherings and therefore, the tournament will not be open to any spectators during the event. Prize Pool

The prize pool for this major is $500,000, the exact same amount that the ONE Esports Singapore major had earlier this year. With regards to Dota Pro Circuit points, this major will consist of 2,700 points in total. These are to be spread out between a couple of the top placers at the event.

This is going to be the final opportunity for these top teams to acquire solid points to reach top 12 of the DPC (Dota Pro Circuit) standings. As you may know, only 12 teams are able to take part in The International 10 later this year. So it is vitally important for these teams to perform to the best of their abilities at the AniMajor.

Boxi taking leave from Team Liquid Dota 2 – Why?

As addressed in the above statement, the main reason for boxi’s temporary leave from the team and the game is so he can be with his family. Personal reasons aside, it’s no secret that Team Liquid’s recent performances haven’t been the best. At the ONE Esports Singapore Major 2021 had quite a disappointing and unexpected early departure as they lost to Vici Gaming in the lower bracket playoffs. During that event, the team placed 9th-12th, definitely not the result they wanted.

Who will replace boxi?

As a replacement, Team Liquid have brought on Syed Sumail  “SumaiL” Hassan. For all of you who do not know SumaiL, he has quite a long history with Dota 2, mainly with Evil Geniuses. He started competing in Dota beginning of 2015 with EG and has had some pretty good results. Recently he’s represented OG but after just 6 months he parted ways. Now he’s looking to be the perfect replacement for Boxi till he can recover and return to competitive play. Here are some of his best achivements:

He’s been with the team since 2018, but has shifted to multiple roles, subbing, while also being inactive for a particular period. Here are some of his best achievements with the team:

  • 1st at The International 2019 – 25th August 2019 – $15,620,181
  • First in The International 2018 – 25th August 2018 – $11,234,158
  • 1st at The Kiev Major 2017 – 30th April 2017 – $1,000,000

Community Reaction:

Without a doubt, fans are extremely happy with this roster move. Not only is it nostalgic to see part of the original OG TI winning roster, but this might be the move that gets OG back on top.

What’s next?

It’s no secret that the team hasn’t been in it’s best shape. During the DreamLeague Season 14 DPC EU Upper Division the team placed 5th, definitely not a result the organization desired. Hopefully with this roster change, the team can develop and adapt quickly and regain their status as best in the world.
