As is clear to anyone who follows esports, CS:GO is a fierce tier 1 esport. Bearing this in mind, we made the interesting decision of including two CS:GO events at the third place spot on our list.

Specifically, within the space of one month, two $1,000,000 events will be taking place and both are worth considering, especially the Rio Major after being cancelled last time!

Both are different types of events – one being more open and the other closed to partner teams. While we might be bending the rules here, it’s to ensure a diverse Top 5 list filled with the best events from multiple esports.

Rounding off the list, based on statistics from last year, is Worlds 2022. With Worlds 2021 earning the top viewership from last year, this year looks to be no different.

Accordingly, once again Riot Games is keeping the same formular. Indeed, by stretching the competition over a month, the epic story looks to unfold and the community tuning into an awesome story. Naturally, only one team will earn the Summoner’s Rift trophy.

Notably, this year Worlds 2022 is heading to North America for the first time in a long time – adding to the excitement! Check out the event on esportsguide here.

TI 2022 Prize Pool – Unlikely To Beat 2021’s Numbers

So far, it’s been 17 days since the Dota Battle Pass was released and the Dota community started contributing to the prize pool of TI. However, the TI 2022 Prize Pool seems to be slowing down in a big way – read on as we compare to different years below!

TI 2022 Prize Pool – Still Some Time Left

Screenshot e
Credits: Valve

Ever since 2015, The International has always managed to impress with its prize pool. Accordingly, here’s what the TI 2022 prize pool looks like on Day 17 compared to the other prize pools at the same point in time:

  • 2022 – $11,772,017
  • 2021 – $14,251,102
  • 2019 – $13,910,039
  • 2018 – $10,839,682

As you can see, 2022 is lagging behind the two years prior. Bearing this in mind, the community is concerned that this may be the first time TI has failed to increase its prize pool.

Credits: Valve

Yet, if this is the case, the bar of $40,000,000 from last year is understandably high. Of course, there’s no way you can criticize Valve, except a slight doubt over the growth of competitive Dota 2.

While some argue that the Battle Pass is simply lower quality, others might justify that crowd funding is simply unreliable.

Otherwise, we’ll be keeping up to date to see how it progresses.

Overall, the format is similar to the North American Qualifier which we previewed.

All the teams here are part of the Dota Pro Circuit. Being the top 12 teams in the rankings who haven’t qualified yet, everyone has earned their spot to be in this position.

Right off the bat, all the teams will be fighting through a double elimination bracket. While the Grand Final will be an epic BO5 showdown, Lower Bracket Round 1 will be BO1 and all other matches BO3.

Anyways, here are the opening matches from the bracket:

  • Outsiders – 1019 Points
  • BetBoom Team – 629 Points
  • Natus Vincere – 341 Points
  • Mind Games – 136 Points
  • PuckChamp – 93 Points

Evidently, there is a rather large discrepancy. Wholeheartedly, we’d like to favour Outsiders for the direct TI seed.

Meanwhile, BetBoom Team and Natus Vincere will try to fight for the LCQ spots.

For those unaware, ESL One Malaysia is a non-Dota Pro Circuit event. Serving the purpose of filling the gap until The International, teams are doing their best to impress.

However, Day 4 of the tournament was very difficult for the competition. Indeed, a technical delay pushed the competition back by one hour. Notably, this was the first Main Stage day of competition.

Regardless, the following matches were played:

  • Entity vs TSM (2-0)
  • Nigma Galaxy vs Thunder Awaken (0-2)
  • Fnatic vs Entity (2-1)

Event Background

As we’ll reiterate, making it to The International is everything for a team. Apart from the ridiculous prize pool up for grabs, it’s an opportunity to write history for whoever dares to do so.

Yet, not everyone managed to earn enough Dota Pro Circuit points to directly qualify for the event.

Accordingly, these teams will need to battle through a qualifier. Amongst all the major regions, the North America Qualifier will run from 3rd September all the way until 18th September.

The event looks to take place online, with 14 of the top non-qualified Dota 2 teams fighting for only two options. While first place earns a direct spot at TI 2022, second and third place will compete in a Last Chance Qualifier LAN to earn the very final spots.

  • Wildcard Gaming
  • SRATFORCESTAFF
  • Alpha

Anyways, in the past Valve has hosted Regional Qualifiers where 14 teams were involved. Let’s take the TI 2021 Qualifier for Western Europe as an example.

Here, teams are immediately seeded into a double elimination bracket depending on their seeding levels heading into the competition. Naturally, the lower teams start in the Lower Bracket, while higher seeded teams start off in the Upper Bracket.

With every match being a BO3, teams will compete to try and make it to the BO5 Grand Final in order to make it to The International 2022 directly.

Anyways, it’s likely that official details will be released on the Dota Pro Circuit Twitter here.

Predictions

Dota 2023
Credits: Dota

Naturally, in such an event, we’d like to favour the likes of teams with experience competing in the Dota Pro Circuit. Here they are below:

  • Soniqs (DPC Points 582)
  • nouns (DPC Points 300)
  • Wildcard Gaming (DPC Points 160)

As you can tell, Soniqs is the clear favourite for this event. However, newer viewers need to be aware that the roster is actually formerly Quincy Crew.

Earlier this year, the roster managed to win DPC NA 2021/22 Tour 1 Division 1. However, a 17th place finish at PGL Arlington Major may have affected their confidence.

Otherwise, it’s very difficult to predict who could upset them during the event.

Dota 2 Esports 2022 – Ranking the Most Popular Regions

Afew weeks ago, we took a look at League of Legend’s esport to rank the regions. Accordingly, this time around we’re tackling its rival MOBA title. Specifically, in this featured article we’ll be taking a look at Dota 2 Esports 2022 – let’s rank the top regions below!

Dota 2 Esports 2022 – Listing the Top Regions

Considering the global popularity of Dota 2 esports, we can’t possibly discuss every single region. Bearing this in mind, a unique structure in place for Dota 2 esports is the Dota Pro Circuit.

SingaporeMajor
Credits: ESL

Designed to feature seasonal competition in the top regions, not every region enjoys Valve’s designed circuit. Indeed, they’ve prioritized the most popular regions. Also, these regions have savoured competitive Dota for multiple years, offering up global talent.

Finally, find the Dota Pro Circuit regions listed below:

  • South America
  • China
  • Eastern Europe
  • Southeast Asia
  • North America
  • Western Europe

Featuring the majority of contents, there are also multiple smaller leagues which are typically regional and not related to the Dota Pro Circuit. Accordingly, for the purpose of this article, we’ll only be focusing on the Major regions and their statistics.

Anyways, below we’ll be looking to assess and rank regions. Bearing this in mind, we’ll need to consider both viewership and the competitive extent of each region separately.

Comparing Viewership Among the Top Six

DotaTipsandTricks
Credits: Valve

So, what exactly are we looking for with regards to viewership. Well, we need to look at statistics for regional events which occurred at the same time for the same stakes.

Bearing this in mind, we’ll be using Esports Charts and their publically available statistics. Considering this, here are the viewership statistics from Tour 2 Division 1:

  • WEU 2021/22 Tour 2 Division I – 184,833 Peak Viewers, 79,782 Average Viewers
  • EEU 2021/22 Tour 2 Playoffs – 157,405 Peak Viewers, 85,000 Average Viewers
  • SEA 2021/22 Tour 2 Division I – 111,220 Peak Viewers, 36,379 Average Viewers
  • NA 2021/22 Tour 2 Division I – 69,257 Peak Viewers, 23,426 Average Viewers
  • CN 2021/22 Tour 2 Division I – 44,973 Peak Viewers, 17,565 Average Viewers
  • SA 2021/22 Tour 2 Division I – 48,816 Peak Viewers, 15,444 Average Viewers
  • Note that this past year, the EEU Tour 2 Division I regular season did not take place due to a political situation in the area. However, we can confirm that earlier in Tour 1 Division 1, the region almost hit 200,000 peak viewers.

Considering this, it’s clear that Europe in general loves competitive Dota 2. So much so, that Valve had to split the region into two regions. Otherwise, Southeast Asia is a close third place. Meanwhile, the other three regions could definitely use improving.

Which is the Most Competitive Region?

Credits: Valve

Now that we know which regions enjoy the most attention, it’s time to see which region produces the highest quality teams. The best metric for this would be to look at the most important event of the year.

Once every year, the international community faces off at The International. Bearing this in mind, looking at the top 2 teams from the past five years will give us an idea as to which region produces the best teams and hence, the best competition. Let’s take a look at the history below:

  • 2021: 1st – Team Spirit (EEU), 2nd – PSG.LGD (China)
  • 2019: 1st – OG (WEU), 2nd – Team Liquid (WEU)
  • 2018: 1st – OG (WEU), 2nd – PSG.LGD (China)
  • 2017: 1st – Team Liquid (WEU), 2nd – Newbee (China)
  • 2016: 1st – Wings Gaming (China), 2nd – Digital Chaos (SA)

So, in this category once again Europe seems to be dominant with regards to producing the top teams. To specify, Western Europe seems to consistently produce top rosters.

Dota 2023

Closely behind them is China – although not highly viewerd, Chinese Dota 2 has become a serious threat over the past few years. This definitely makes up for the viewership in part.

Dota 2 Esports 2022 – Naming the Top Region

In conclusion, it’s rather clear which region sits on top. Specifically, overall the likes of WEU and EEU (making up Europe) are the top regions followed closely by China.
