Heading into 2023, competitive FIFA is quite the prospect. Accordingly, with a number of events scheduled, the action would kick off with the EA SPORTS Cup Final 2023. Read on as we review how Ninjas in Pyjamas walked away as champions!
EA SPORTS Cup Final 2023 – A 2v2 Competition
So, what’s the context for this event?
Organized for esports organizations, the EA Sports Cup is designed to crown the very best duos in the world. Accordingly, hosted on Playstation 5, this event involved the best teams in the world earning a spot through multiple regional qualifiers.
Runing from 17th October to 1st January, with $250,000 on the line, the winner was crowned yesterday in London – Ninjas in Pyjamas.
So, how did “Ollelito” and “LevideWeerd” earn the crown?
Well, they certainly had to earn it. Squeaking into the second seed for Group A, they seeded into the Playoffs with not much pressure on them to win it.
However, after burying the likes of Fokus Clan and FUTWIZ, everyone suddenly realized that they had a chance to go all the way.
To do so, they’d have to face one of the favourites – Fnatic. Accordingly, they did so in epic fashion – winning in an uncontested 5-1 scoreline!
We’ll stay tuned to see what’s next for competitive FIFA.
As is tradition at esportsguide, we love working on an Esports Tier List every now and then. Indeed, following the conclusion of some of the largest esports events ever, now is the best time ever. Accordingly, feel free to read on for an updated list for Esports Tier List 2022 Q4!
Indeed, as always, weโll fill you in on the same criteria weโve always used to dictate our tier lists:
Event Proportions โ Size of prize pools, number of participants, third and first party organizers, environment and arena capacities
Event frequency โ is the year bursting with competition or solely reliant on infrequent first-party organizers
Competitiveness โ the level of competition in an esports scene is related to its livelihood
State of the community โ health of the lower tier sectors and general condition of the esport as a dynamic entity
Accordingly, with that taken care of, always remember that these lists are subject to our opinion too. Otherwise, weโll be listing the top viewership from the time period, although itโs not the only factor considered. We’re not looking at growth – just where they stand.
Tier 1 – Welcoming VALORANT and Free Fire – Esports Tier List 2022
LoL – 2022 World Championship – Peak Viewers 5,147,701
CS:GO – PGL Major Antwerp 2022 – Peak Viewers 2,113,610
Dota 2 – The International 2022 – Peak Viewers 1,751,086
VALORANT – VALORANT Champions 2022 – Peak Viewers 1,505,804
Free Fire – Free Fire World Series 2022 Sentosa – Peak Viewers 1,477,545
So, let’s talk about the changes involved here. Firstly, since our last Esports Tier List, we’ve decided to promote VALORANT to Tier 1 after an incredible second season, breaking the million peak viewer mark.
In addition, we’ve decided to demote PUBG Mobile from Tier 1 to Tier 2 due to a quieter year, failing to reach the same level of viewership. In contrast, Free Fire managed to grow in the past year and have earned a spot as the top Mobile Esport in the world.
Otherwise, LoL and CS:GO retain their spots as the two very best esports in the world, each having incredible years. Although still worthy of Tier 1, Dota had a rough year and will look to improve next year.
Tier 2 – Multiple Promotions and Demotions
PUBG Mobile – 31st Southeast Asian Games PUBG Mobile – Peak Viewers 903,011
Rocket League – RLCS 21-22 World Championship – Peak Viewers 368,721
Overwatch League – OWL 2022 Playoffs – Peak Viewers 397,868
CoD – CDL 2022 Playoffs – Peak Viewers 275,244
While Tier 1 has remained somewhat the same, Tier 2 has seen multiple changes since last year.
Perhaps the most impressive climber is the likes of Rocket League – after an impressive year with constant improvement in viewership, the esport is kicking up very well. They’re climb to Tier 2 from Tier 3 is joined by AoG which has remained consistent over the past two years.
Also, Overwatch has made the jump thanks to a much needed improvement of viewership from last year. In fact, it was doubled this year thanks to the excitement behind Overwatch 2.
As we explained prior, for now we’ve had to demote PUBG Mobile to Tier 2 as they’ve failed to be consistent this past year. Let’s see if things improve next year.
Tier 3 – Halo Infinite Making a Mark
Halo World Championship 2022 – Peak Viewers 143,585
FIFA – FIFA eWorld Cup 2022 – Peak Viewers 149,465
PUBG – PUBG Nations Cup – Peak Viewers 239,112
Rainbow Six Siege – Six Invitational 2022 – Peak Viewers 262,714
Here in Tier 3, the likes of Halo and FIFA are newcomers. With Halo restarting esports operations this year, it joins an improving FIFA scene which returned with offline events this year.
Meanwhile, we’ve decided to demote PUBG and Rainbow Six Siege as they both seem to be lacking growth. Bearing this in mind, both esports are making big changes for 2023 in search of success.
Tier 4 – Wild Rift Experiment Failing?
StarCraft II – IEM Katowice 2022 – Peak Viewers 50,635
Fortnite – Fortnite Champions Series 2022 Invitational – Peak Viewers 381,915
Hearthstone – Hearthstone World Championship – Peak Viewers 21,786
The end of the 2022 season for FIFA esports saw an epic return to live events with multiple conclusive events. Accordingly, heading into next year, so much more is promised. Indeed, read on as we offer our very own FIFA 2023 Esports Road Map below!
FIFA 2023 Esports Road Map – Returning FIFA Global Series
For those unaware, the highest level of competitive FIFA has been organized and celebrated by the FIFA Global Series.
So, heading into next year, the two massive post-season events to note are the FIFAe World Cup and the FIFAe Club World Cup. Each of them have their very own path and circuit.
FIFAe World Cup – An Incredible Build-Up
Firstly, the FIFAe World Cup will involve a number of events to determine who the single best individual is. Starting things off with online qualifiers involving a maximum 1216 players in January, there’ll be multiple opportunities to qualify.
However, halfway through the season, there will be a new mid-season major event. Accordingly, with $500,000 on the line, the FGS will invite the competition to London in April to see who sits on top.
Anyways, further into the season, depending on Global Series Rankings, qualification continues. Whether through Group Stage or Open Bracket, teams will try to make it to the Play-Ins. Here, Partner League events will allow individuals to seed!
Furthermore, the top 64 players will compete through the final Global Series Playoffs with $300,000 to earn the final 24 spots for the FIFAe World Cup.
FIFAe Club World Cup – Experimenting Further
Secondly, the FIFAe Club World Cup offers a different type of competition. Featuring 20 teams as determined here, the new team-based event will be a completely different game to the 1v1 side.
Taking place across three months, from October 2022 to January 2023, EA Games will be offering $250,000.
FIFAe Nations 2023 – National Pride
In addition, there will also be the FIFAe Nations Cup 2023 as explained in the following video:
Also, there’s the FIFA eChampions League 2023 to look forward to also!
With so much going on, we’re incredibly excited for the future of FIFA esports!
While competitive FIFA is awaiting a new title release for the western world, that isn’t the case for the other side of the world. Accordingly, the FIFAe Continental Cup 2022 is a Tier 1 event celebrating Asian FIFA, played on a separate title. Kicking off in the coming month, read on as we discuss How to Watch below!
Event Background
As we’ll elaborate, in the Asian continent, the esports of FIFA is played under the title of FIFA Online 4, a title purpose built for the region. This is similar to how other titles such as Arena of Valor have a sister title for different regions.
Accordingly, the FIFAe Continental Cup is focusing on Asian competition. Notably, most of the Global Series events across the years don’t often feature the continent as it is considered a minor region for the world of competitive FIFA.
Taking place online, EA Games is offering $300,000 of prize pool for the community to show out and prove who’s the best across China, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.
Featuring 1v1 competition, the tournament is said to kick off on the 1st October to span across the entire weekend.
Indeed, the top 16 teams in the continent have been invited to compete, find them listed below:
1 – FaZe Clan, Freecs, MS Chonburi, R&F Ronly
2 – GRATZ, DIH Esport, Crazy Win, Daejeon Hana Citizen
3 – TEAMPLAYxGaming, TS-SC, MiTR Coffee, Tony Tonyy
4 – PSMGaming, Manchester City, Remax Thailand, ProGramer
Naturally, the above list is based on the FIFA Online 4 Series Ranking.
Format
Accordingly, the format is rather simple for this exciting event.
Firstly, we’ll start off with a Knockout Stage. Here, the 16 teams will be randomly divided into two groups of 8 each – considering how each group has 2 teams from each pot.
Each group will play through a double elimination bracket, where top 2 in each group advance to the final stage. All matches will be BO5.
Considering this, only the top 4 teams will be present in the Final Stage. In this epic conclusion, a single elimination bracket with BO5 matches will determine who the champion is, crowned the best in the continent.

Accordingly, we’re interested to see how the viewership compares to other regions and whether or not Asian FIFA has risen compared to the major regions.
Over the past few weeks, EA Games has animated the competitive scene thanks to several exciting post-season events. Accordingly, the FIFAe Club World Cup 2022 concluded last weekend – read on as we recap this exciting event!

So much so that they kicked off this display of dominance in the Group Stage, scoring the highest points out of any team in all three groups.
Carrying this momentum into the Knockout Stage, they would handle all the competition with ease, except perhaps exceL:
Riders vs Dire Wolves (2-0)

Overall, the event concluded with a somewhat close Grand Final which Movistar happily claimed to earn the Club World Cup title for this year!
