Halo Tips and Tricks – A Practical Guide

Welcoming Halo Infinite as a featured esports on esportsguide, the title is part of a long legacy of Halo esports. Accordingly, bearing similarities with Call of Duty, the franchise is different in many ways. Indeed, it’s the best opportunity to fill you in on some Halo Tips and Tricks to help you understand the game further!

Mechanical Skills

As a first-person shooter title, the main similarity the title has with Call of Duty is the fact that both are controller-input titles. Although both are now powered through PC, it’s the controller which hasn’t changed from the very start of competitive Halo.

Credits: 343 Industries

One of the main differences to Call of Duty is the weaponry at hand – instead of one or two viable weapons, Halo is famous for an array of weapons, some of which are picked up during the games.

Considering the amount of aiming to be done, here are some tips to improve your mechanical skills:

  • Gear Up – best your chance by having the best peripherals possible, considering everything such as customized controllers with better grips and additional buttons
  • Maintain that aim – better your shot by practicing daily via online games or even simple custom games offline
  • Holding your controller – try out different ways to grip the controller such as ‘claw’ and many others. At the same time, consider experimenting with different button layouts to get comfortable
  • Apart from aim – movement is an essential component. Try practice getting around the map as smoothly as possible. Good movement will allow for good aim!

In-Game Knowledge and Awareness

Indeed, apart from aim and movement, strategy is something which apart from individually, it makes or breaks a team.

Credits: 343 Industries

For Halo Infinite, apart from the number of maps, here are the game modes:

  • Slayer – simple team deathmatch to eliminate enemy team – most slays after the time limit wins or whoever reaches the score-limit first
  • Strongholds – teams controlling three zones across the map which generate points and can be captured. Once time is up, team with the most score wins.
  • CTF – the classic game everyone knows – capture the enemy team flag as many times as possible – most captures wins
  • Oddball – an interesting mode where teams have to hold possession the Oddball with time offering points – rounds won with 100 points and two rounds results in a win

Bearing in mind these game modes, there are few key aspects of the gameto bear in mind:

  • Maps – you need to know every nook and cranny of each map, knowing where the enemy can’t and can be at any time.
  • Spawn system – apart from knowing the maps, understanding spawns can help you predict where players will come from and allow you to control the map predictibly. Apart from player spawns, weapon spawns also play a part.
  • Lethals and tacticals – perfect utility placement will thwart opponents and allow for easier kills.
  • Game update – stay up to date with how the game changes and affects the flow of it all

Personal and Interpersonal – Halo Tips and Tricks

Credits; 343 Industries

Then, at the end of the day, we have our personal tips which remain similar for many esports. Consider the following to find the most success in this team-based esport:

  • Communicate with your teammates – offer valuable information such as the location of enemies, their amount of health and observable enemy movements
  • Do not ego challenge – engage in clever gunfights, trade out your teammate’s death and don’t be over-aggressive.
  • Learn from teammates and find your role accordingly. Depending on the role you will require coordination with the team
  • Playing the objective is more important than slaying!

Indeed, we can’t wait to see Halo Infinite continue taking off!

Predictions

Considering predictions, let’s take a look at the most recent event for the region.

Accordingly, here are the standings from the HCS North America Open Series 2022:

  • #1 – FaZe Clan
  • #2 – Pioneers
  • #3 – eUnited
  • #4 – XSET
  • #5-6 – Spacestation and Complexity Gaming
  • #7-8 – Oxygen Esports and Gamers First
Credits: 343 Industries

Indeed, when taking a look at these standings, it’s clear that the favourites stand between FaZe Clan, Pioneers and eUnited.

Yet, it’s incredibly competitive right now. Only a few weeks before the above event, at HCS Anaheim 2022, FaZe Clan placed 7-8th for example, while Cloud9 and OpTic placed first and second.

Especially since the event is online, perhaps the environment won’t be identical to offline events and that could shake things up. Indeed, Halo Infinite is a day-by-day event – a slow start can punish you on any given day.

What about the qualifier teams? While they seem great, it’s unlikely they’ll manage to upset some of the best teams in the region right now – however, we’d love a surprise or two.
