For competitive League of Legends, Worlds 2021 has been one incredible journey. Accordingly, we’ve been there every step of the way. Finally, over the past week we witnessed a conclusion to this epic event. Indeed, below you can find your Worlds 2021 Recap as we follow the rise of the LPL!

Worlds 2021 Recap – The LPL is Back On Top

Heading into this event, we knew that a winner would emerge from the regions of the LCK and the LPL. Namely, EDward Gaming came out on top for the LPL, let’s follow their journey.

Starting in the Group Stage, they got off to a weaker start then expected. Specifically, they went 4-2 to earn a second seed right under T1 over in Group A.

Earning a spot in the Knockout Stage, they never got a free win. Look at the following results:

  • Royal Never Give Up vs EDward Gaming (2-3) – taking down their regional rivals, they emerge as the Kings of the LPL with the entire region looking to them
  • EDward Gaming vs Gen.G (3-2) – heading into the semifinals, EDG were the final non-Korean team. Luckily, they managed to take down the lower LCK seed in the form of Gen.G

And then, in the Grand Final, EDward Gaming earned their spot as the best in the world after taking down last year’s champions – DWG KIA.

This is the rise of the LPL once again!

Regardless of both series, the favourite prevailed in the end. Let’s start with the China vs Korea match:

  • EDward Gaming vs Gen.G (3-2)

After dethroning Royal Never Give Up in the Quarterfinals, EDward Gaming felt confident moving forwards as the top Chinese team. On the other side of things, Gen.G easily took down Cloud9 3-0 in easy fashion.

Here, EDward Gaming fought hard to stay on top, though Gen.G managed to keep it close.

Following a season of doubts over whether or not DWG KIA is still the best team in the world, the Koreans would face another Korean team in the form of T1. Here though, although tested, they would stay on top and prevail to yet another grand final.

Here on esportsguide, we’re constantly on the look-out for trends in the industry. Accordingly, one such trend is the series of mainstream soccer organizations signing secondary rosters in esports. Specifically, Barcelona have dived into the highest level of competitive League of Legends in Spain – the Superliga. Here, they look to be acquiring the spot of the likes of S2V Esports. Supposedly, they’ve won a bid which other popular Spanish football teams were also fighting for.

Anyhow, we’re not sure whether or not they will acquire the roster formerly part of S2V Esports, or make moves to build something new. Overall, we’re happy to see mainstream football names making moves in esports.

Specifically, this Barcelona’s third main outreach into esports, following their bids into Hearthstone and Rocket League.

While being a staple to Spanish football, at this rate they could grow to support a community in competitive esports.

One thing of note is that the Barcelona brand will also be going against esports teams owned by renowned Barcelona players, such as Gerard Pique.

TSM Bjergsen Returning to Competition – Where To?

Indeed, TSM Bjergsen is one of the most well-recognized faces for competitive LoL in North America. Last competitive season, the veteran announced his retirement from competition as a mid-laner, entering coaching. However, with Worlds 2021 slowly closing. So, what’s going on with Saren “Bjersen” Bjerg? After coaching TSM for a year, the coach has managed to offer the following results for the team within the LCS:

Heading into the Knockout Stage, it was all about regions. Indeed, could Europe and North America hang on with Korea and China closing in?

Accordingly, the short answer is no, and a resounding answer too. Both the likes of Cloud9 and MAD Lions went home, with the MAD Lions vs DWG KIA match-up offering a new record in terms of viewership for the legendary event.

Apart from that, the Quarterfinals saw T1 expectantly take down HLE, but more excitingly, RNGU fall to EDward Gaming in an epic fight between the Chinese giants. Here are the matches listed:

As a reminder, these teams have made it here after placing in the top half in their respective groups in the Group Stage. From this stage, we’ve already seen a tonne of competition, with the top half of the teams coming through.

First things first, here are your Day 11 matches listed below, all of which stood as the final round of matches for Group C:

China College Series – Wild Rift and TFT Incoming!

Over the past few months, it’s been an ongoing trend for franchised organizations in League of Legends to spread out. Accordingly, by this statement we mean picking up a team for the mobile titles of Wild Rift and TFT – other titles by Riot Games. Now, the China College Series is expanding to these titles – read on to learn more!

Indeed, prior to this announcement, the prior season only celebrated competitive League of Legends. The league used to contribute a few teams to the LDL – the developmental/youth league for the LPL.

Notably, with many LPL teams signing Wild Rift and TFT rosters, it was only a matter of time for the younger leagues to follow up.

So there we have it. It seems that the China College Series will be expanding on all fronts. Accordingly, the League of Legends competitions will enjoy the partnering of new titles to keep the action lively.
