Namely, ever since the Overwatch 2 beta went live a couple days ago, streaming platforms have reported an incredible amount of viewership.

Specifically, Twitch, one of the top streaming platforms, witness an incredible number of viewership. Statistics have it that a record high of 1.4 million concurrent viewers were attained at one point in time!

Accordingly, this smashes all previous records for Overwatch on the streaming platforms.

Indeed, there are multiple reasons as to why. Of course, apart from the excitement, Twitch Drops with beta codes have pulled the community in with everyone hungry to play and view the title.

The community has been waiting for quite some time, but it’s finally almost here. Indeed, the Overwatch 2 Beta is giving the community a taste of what’s to come. Read on as we offer up some observations from the early versions of the new title coming soon!

Indeed, the main points we want to discuss focus on what’s new – and there’s a lot to cover. Of course, one of the most central changes is the move to 5v5 from 6v6 competition. This allows for more strategic gameplay which is slightly less hectic.

So, let’s talk about what the community will be able to play on April 26th in terms of new components:

  • New Game Mode: Push – a tug-of-war game with a robot for teams to escort to other sides of the map
  • New Character: apart from the 32 Overwatch characters – new hero Sojourn as part of the roster. Also, other heroes have been reworked and balanced
  • Maps: new maps such as Midtown and Circuit Royal Escort

  • Title to be played will in fact be Overwatch 2 with new hero Sojourn, new Push game mode and new maps
  • Accordingly, all Contenders tournaments are now open-registration formats
  • Top teams from 2021 directly invited to first Contenders event of 2022
  • First tournaments for Contenders after Overwatch 2 PvP beta
  • Prize pool of $1.3 million
  • Events across regions: NA, Europe, China, South Korea and Australia/New Zealand

These are great changes. Specifically, the ‘open format’ is the biggest change. By making the events more open, we’re more likely to have more teams participating, increasing competition levels and increasing talent.

Bearing this in mind, over the past years, Contenders has struggled. Blizzard addressing this by offering improvement is a great sign.

  • Schedule – the full schedule has been announced and is viewable here
  • Version of Overwatch – teams been given access to an early build of the Overwatch 2 PvP alpha, which gives them approximately two months to prepare for the start of the schedule.
  • The league will generally update to the latest balance and schedule major content releases between tournament cycles

On top of all of this information, they’re hoping to have planned live events for when it all kicks off in the first week of May.

It’s been a long wait for the return of competitive Overwatch. Following the off-season both the community and competitive scene cannot wait to get back to work.

In short, here’s everything you need to know regarding this upcoming season:

  • Start Date: May 5th 2022
  • Teams: same 20 franchised teams, with the New York Excelsior now moved to West Region
  • Each team plays 24 regular season games, compared to 16 last year
  • Four tournaments planned for the year – two regional and two international
  • Mid-Season Madness tournament – $1,000,000 prize, international

Yet, that hasn’t stopped Philadelphia Fusion from signing the likes of Kwon “FiXa” Yeong-Hun at the age of 17. With promising beginnings, he seems to be a future prospect for the roster once he turns 18 soon into the start of the season.

Following the delaying of Overwatch 2, the community is rather uncertain over this upcoming season. Indeed, there are doubts, which is why this season needs to be extra successful – namely, the OWL 2022 season will be played on Overwatch 2.

Although no official roadmap has been provided by Blizzard, it’s likely that the essential components of the season will remain the same, as rosters are finalized on March 1st.

Los Angeles Valiant Roster – Signing Innovation and Becky for 2022

Last season was tough for LA Valiant. Indeed, placing dead last in the regular season was definitely a wake-up call. Accordingly, heading into this next season, the Los Angeles Valiant roster has undergone a few changes. Read on as we highlight two new additions.

As I’ll reiterate, the entire roster was wiped at the end of the season, with an official announcement earlier this month. This is definitely justified, with all coaching and management being refreshed in hopes of future success.

With regards to the roster, two new players have been added – Oh “Innovation” Seok-hyun and Kim “Becky” Il-ha. Accordingly, this is what the active roster looks like:
