The Indian Government alongside the Ministry of Information and Technology have just announced that the most popular app in India, PUBG Mobile is banned in India. Alongside the PUBG Mobile ban, they will also be banning 117 more Chinese mobile apps.
Why are the apps getting banned?
The Indian Government will be banning PUBG Mobile and the other 117 Chinese apps due to data security concerns. This is because there was tension between China and India in Eastern Ladakh’s border area. Due to Tencent being a Chinese company, the Indian Government has made this decision to, in a way, punish China due to their recent conflict.
PUBG Mobile banned in India – How will this ban affect the esports scene?
The game has been one of the leading Mobile esports, alongside other games like Clash Royale, Arena of Valor and Mobile Legends. It has over 734,000,000 downloads and around 100,000,000 players daily, which means that it is an extremely popular game. In fact, both TSM and Fnatic have made investments towards the Indian esports scene, particularly in PUBG Mobile. This is very unfortunate news for Fnatic as they were planning on expanding their Indian PUBG Mobile roster.
It’s a very sad day in esports, as a shutdown like this loses people their careers, jobs and dreams. PUBG Mobile getting banned in India is also going to affect all of the Indian competitive esports athletes. As nowadays they will have to think twice before heading into a career in gaming.
When Tencent revealed the PUBG Mobile World League this year, it acted as a separate event to the World Championship. However, as Tencent has just announced, both events will be merging into one – the PUBG Mobile Global Championship! Read on for more details!
This is terrifically exciting news for the PUBG community. Why has the change been made? Most likely, the switch to online events means that hosting one event could be less trouble then hosting two. Anyways, nobody’s complaining as the prize pool has also been combined – a staggering $2,000,000 is now on the line!
Right now, details are scarce but look to follow up the announcement. Accordingly, the PUBG Mobile Global Championship will unite the globe, as 6 regions will compete under one roof ranging from the Americas to the Middle East.
A total of 20 spots are available for the event. The ongoing Pro Leagues will determine these teams. Apart from that, the event should be a squads event and may use the newly released map for the mobile game. All-in-all, it looks to be a phenomenal event for the entire community to enjoy – some say it might come as soon as next week!
The PUBG Mobile Pro League is constantly innovating to push mobile esports further. Offering incredible events as covered earlier, now, the PMPL is no joke. Now, PMPL Indonesia is discovering a new points system. Indeed, this looks to set a new standard in the scene.
As announced by none other than developer Tencent, the scoring system has changed. Accordingly, the new system is being implemented at PMPL Indonesia Season 2. The event is taking place from Aug. 14 to Sept. 17. Here it is:
What are the major changes? Mainly, the points have been reworked to encourage aggressive play in the later portions of the game. The PMPL Indonesia Points system now reduces the reward for first place. Therefore, the 1 point per kill is now way more powerful.
Besides this, the lower rankings will now be receiving 0 points and not the default 1. Accordingly, this should punish overly aggressive teams early in the game.
Otherwise, should this point system be implemented entirely, this will change PUBG Mobile drastically. Hiding and playing slowly could no longer be rewarded as seen in previous events.
PUBG Mobile World League Season Zero kicked off on July 14th. Split into West and East divisions, League Play is finished for the West. Below, we’ll be taking a closer look at PMWL West – League Finals are soon!
Running from July 14th to August 2nd, League Play has multiple stages. Across the 3 weeks, Loops Esports clearly kept fighting for the top. However, initially, Week 1 saw them taking third as Cloud9 took first. Actually, this trend continued into the second week too!
So, how did Loops Esports managed to place first? Accordingly, in the final week, Cloud9 faltering massively helped out. By placing a shocking 18th across the week, the organizations missed out on the weekend as well. With the door wide open, Loops Esports took advantage and climbed to first place.
These are the top 10 standings out of the total 20 teams:
Due to their poor performance, many teams managed to place above Cloud9 here. Bagging $50,000, Loops Esports walked away with 5 wins, 246 kills and a first seed into the League Finals.
The top 16 are qualified for PMWL West Season Zero League Finals. Running from the August 6-9th, expect Cloud9 to face off against Loops Esports once again.
PUBG Mobile continues to grow at an exhilarating pace thanks to the continuous content hitting the title exclusively from the main title. Last May, a new map was revealed and just a few days ago, another map was officially revealed to be released in the coming weeks. Welcome to Livik, PUBG Mobile fans.
Unlike the other maps in the title, Livik aims to be the smallest of them all, through despite size, combining elements of snow, grasslands and desert all on one playing field. It is also the very first exclusive map for PUBG Mobilewhich has the community ecstatic and goes to show how independent the community has become from the main game.
However, no dates have been confirmed as of yet. Personalities who have gotten their hands on the new map have reconfirmed its small size. On the competitive side of things, including such a small map could lead to a fun viewership experience as engagements will be forced due to the tight space and chaos would ensue.
Competitive PUBG Mobile simply refuses to stop growing, both as a casual title and an esport. Recently, Tencent revealed the all-new PUBG Mobile World League which looks to gather the very best teams in the world, all of whom will be battling out through a season for a shot at the $850,000 set as the prize pool. Read on to learn more!
Revealed at the PMPL South Asia finals, a total of 40 teams will be making up the League, split into East and West divisions. With the competition running from the 10th of July to the 9th August, the midsummer event looks to be the most epic event ever hosted by Tencent for PUBG Mobile. Predictions
The PUBG Mobile Pro League Americas is sure to be a great event
with tons of competition between the top North American and Latin American
teams. However with regards to predictions, I think it’s fair to say that Tempo
Storm, Loops and OMEN Elite have the highest chances of coming out
victorious.
Tempo Storm have always placed top 4 or above in the last 3 PMPL events,
and even managed to win the PMPL Americas Scrim Season 2 event. As for
Loops, they have also been a strong force in multiple events, especially in the
PMPL Americas Scrim Season 1 tournament where they came out as winners.
OMEN Elite are also one of the strongest teams that will be participating in
the
