Panda win PMPL Western EU Season 1 – How did they do it?

Just looking at their matches in the event, you can clearly see that they had an excellent performance throughout all of the tournament. They had a bit of a rough start in the first 2 rounds, but kept their kill count high. In their third round they got a 2nd placement with 6 kills. This gave them a solid amount of points and was already ranking within the top teams. A few games later (Round 6) they managed to get another 2nd with 7 kills, and the following games were just super consistent.

Round 7 they got 4th with 3 kills, Round 8 they placed 3rd with 8 eliminations, and in Round 9 they got their very first and only chicken dinner with 6 kills. In the rounds that followed we can see team Panda achieving 2nd, 3rd and 4th placements.

Their main winning factor was the points they kept receiving due to their very high kill count. In fact, the 2nd placing team, Destiny, got a total of 176 points after winning 4 games, but in return, they didn’t rack up as many kills.

What’s next?

With this event concluded, we must now look onto the PMPL EMEA Season 1. From this event we have Panda, Destiny as well as Godsent grabbing their own spot in the $150,000 USD event. The tournament will take place between the 24th and 27th of June.

PMPL South Asia Championship Postponed – Why?

A quick change of events has hit the competitive PUBG Mobile season. Nothing major of course, but the PMPL South Asia Championship has just been postponed for a particular reason. Moved to June 10-13, let’s figure out why!

PMPL South Asia Championship – An Entire Month

Tencent revealed today in a press release, on their instagram account, that the event will be moved an entire month. Originally planned for May 13-16th, the event has been postponed by a month to June 10-13th.

However, no reasoning was providing with regards to why this has taken place.

It’s certainly unfortunate. As we previewed here on esportsguide, the top 16 teams in the region were going to battle out in the inaugural competition for the South Asian region.

Indeed, in my opinion there is a clear reason as to why. Unfortunately, due to the turbulent health situation in the South Asian region, it’s likely that Tencent was advised not to host the event. Likely, this decision is being taken to protect players and staff and their health.

Was it necessary to delay the event by a month? We’re not sure, but we’re excited regardless. All we can do is keep our viewers up to date and stay tuned for any further updates.

Alliance win PMPL CIS Regular Season

This past weekend we had The Alliance win the PMPL CIS Regular Season. Here’s how it all played out:

Final Standings + Winnings:

  • 1st – $8,500 – Alliance
  • 2nd – $10,500 – Natus Vincere
  • 3rd – $3,500 – Armed Family

  • 9th – $5,500 – Virtus.pro
  • 10th – $3,500 – 1218

Alliance win PMPL CIS Regular Season – How did they do it?

Week 1

In the initial week, Alliance were the most dominant totalling up to 197 points. They got 2 chicken dinners, and a couple more high placements, featuring 2nd/3rd and 4th placements. What really raised their points were their kills, as they frequently got more than 10 kills. They were closely followed by Natus Vincere’s team in 2nd place, finishing the 1st week super weekend with 180 points.

Week 2

The 2nd week was quite similar, however it’s fair to say that Na’Vi were better during this week. Again, Alliance got 2 victories and a couple high placements, but the consistency was nowhere near Na’Vi’s. Despite this, the team still placed in 2nd with 166 points, 23 points away from 1st.

Week 3

This week was probably the team’s worst, only reaching 4th place with 137 points. Here it was evident that the team struggled to get high kills like before, but somehow their placement was not too bad. They still grabbed their traditional 2 chicken dinners and that got them a lot of points in the end.

In the final standings, Alliance were first with a total of 500 points, just above Na’Vi (483 points).

PUBG mobile returning to India as Battlegrounds Mobile India

It has been announced that PUBG Mobile will be returning to India as Battlegrounds Mobile India. Here is the announcement:

Battlegrounds Mobile India – What is it?

Battlegrounds Mobile India, developed by South Korean game developer KRAFTON, plans to have a similar gaming experience to PUBG Mobile. As stated by them, they will offer a “world class AAA multiplayer gaming experience on mobile”. A great feature that this game will have is that it will also launch as a free-to-play game, on a variety of mobile devices.

The game will have a short period of pre-registration before launch. This will obviously only be eligible for play from India, as the game’s main scope is for those players. The game developer KRAFTON will continue to partner with other companies to build a solid esports ecosystem, while also adding new and interesting in-game content on a frequent basis. Here’s a first look at the logo of the upcoming game.

Origins

In September of 2020, the Indian government revealed that they will ban the PUBG Mobile game in their country. This was not the only one banned, as they removed an additional 117 more Chinese mobile apps. The main reason for this was probably security and privacy breach from these apps. Now with the creation of Battlegrounds Mobile India, they put protection of privacy of as their main priority.

Credits: PUBG MOBILE Esports Twitter

So much so, we’ll be describing a general approach to watching all of the events for you below.

Format

In terms of format, they all share similar formats as organized by Tencent. For the most part, all events will follow two stages. To begin with, Weekdays of competition will take place across the week. It’s here that the top 16 of each region will be decided. Indeed, this top 16 will compete in the Super Weekend.

Specifically, it’s in the Super Weekend that points can be earned towards placements in the Finals. Indeed, for events already in the Finals, all that’s left is for the remaining top competition to play a final week of competition to figure out who the best really is.

Overall, teams will earn points through kills and position. To win, teams will need to strike a balance while also being consistent in order to claim the overall victory.

Ranking PUBG Mobile Viewership – Regional Rumble

Across the globe, PUBG Mobile is running rampant with competition. Indeed, Tencent is pushing the PUBG Mobile Pro League as an opportunity to cultivate competition across borders. That got us thinking – which regions have the best PUBG Mobile Viewership? Read on for another Regional Rumble!

PUBG Mobile Viewership – Indonesian Dominance

Approaching this task, we’ve once again tried to keep things standardized. Luckily for us, these past few weeks many PMPL events concluded for multiple reasons. Indeed, we’ll be using viewership statistics via Esports Charts.

PUBG Mobile New Map

Of note, the following list does not include every single region out there. Indeed, as a compliment to the competitive scene, there are simply too many to list, so we’ve kept the top contenders in this list. Also, it must be noted that certain regions such as the LATAM, Arabia and CIS regions have events in the coming days which could have made the list. However, we’ll be using statistics available as of today. Here they are!

  1. Indonesia PMPL Season 3 2021 – 631,567 Peak, 231,961 Average
  2. Malaysia and Singapore PMPL Season 3 2021 – 306,416 Peak, 65, 492 Average
  3. Turkey PMPL Season 1 2021 – 83,388 Peak, 42,573 Average (event ongoing)
  4. South Asia PMPL Season 3 2021 – 53,669 Peak, 24,019 Average
  5. Thailand PMPL Season 3 2021 – 52,826 Peak, 18,699 Average
  6. Brazil PMPL Season 1 2021 – 36,313 Peak, 10,828 Average
  7. Vietnam PMPL Season 3 2021 – 32,025 Peak, 7,760 Average
  8. NA PMPL Season 1 2021 – 28,172 Peak, 6,297 Average
  9. South East Asia PMCO 2021 Spring Wildcard – 21,791 Peak, 9,743 Average

I think it is very clear that primarily Indonesia, followed up by MYSG, are the biggest fans of competitive PUBG Mobile. Meanwhile, this is followed and trailed by other regions in the area such as South Asia. Furthermore, it is evident that NA is still growing to love the esport compared to others.

What about India?

Definitely a topic I want to discuss. This past year, the banning of PUBG Mobile in India was a big hit to the scene, as the region loved the esport dearly.

PMPL Indonesia Season 3

Despite this ban, which may potentially be reversed, Esports Charts has also revealed that 29.2% of total viewership is through the Hindi broadcast (Indian oriented). This merely follows the 33.9% owned by the Indonesian sector – these statistics come from events hosted in 2020.

So while a ban may be in place, the locals are still endeared and enthusiastic as viewers. However, with the availability of Garena Free Fire, we’re unsure how long this will last for PUBG Mobile.

Moving Forward – New Regions

One phenomenal aspect behind competitive PUBG Mobile, is the rate at which new regional competitions are being held. Accordingly, in the next few months we’ll be keeping an eye out. So far, events for the EMEA, Arabia and Western Europe look to kick off and raise up new regions.

What have we learnt through this discussion?

It seems that bearing in mind Indonesia’s dominance, we’ll be keeping an eye out on this region more closely. Furthermore, Tencent might want to consider doing its utmost to lift the local Indian ban of the title, considering the vast viewership being sourced from this region.

Regardless, this friendly discussion isn’t meant to place one region over one another. Indeed, it is to celebrate how widespread and dominant PUBG Mobile has become. So much so, that the all-time peak last year was a whopping 3,801,998! That’s why PUBG Mobile is Tier 1!

Similar to the PMPL NA Finals event, the format for this event is relatively simple. Hosted online, it’s the same for each day. Running from Friday to Sunday, squads will play 5 matches each day in one big group of 16. After a total of 15 matches, we’ll have our final standings!

The Points Distribution places a balanced weight on both kills and placement, though teams will need both to place well. Here’s how points will be awarded:

Predictions

With a Finals event like this, it’s always a good idea to consult the results from the regular season for predictions. Indeed, below I’ll present the standings – this is how the teams got here:

standingspmplvn
Credits: Liquipedia

So first things first – Infinity IQ is definitely the favourite for the event, gaining the first seed with quite a lead over the second placed FFQ Mobile.

However, despite this, the competition further down, especially from second to fifth, is incredibly tight. Sitting within a 20 point difference, it could be said that these teams are all in the same category.

As you progress further down the leaderboard, teams naturally have a lower chance of winning. Regardless, battle royale is always an ‘on-the-day’ esport where you need to show up on the day and likely, get a little lucky. Beyond that, this isn’t the regular season – this are the Finals and teams can show up in a big way should they want it badly enough.
