It’s time! After an eventful regular season, the PMPL NA Finals 2021 are finally here and ready to entertain us. Accordingly, in this episode of How to Watch, we’ll be providing all of the viewership details you need to enjoy this incredible PUBG Mobile event coming later this week!

Event Background

As I’ll reiterate, this Finals event is perfectly timed following an exciting regular season. Teams fought tooth and nail to earn one of the 16 spots on the line. With these spots, teams will now compete for mainly, a seed for the PMPL Americas Finals which is only reserved for the top 5.

Running from the 16th to the 18th April, it looks to be a weekend to remember for these pro teams. Indeed, here they are listed out:

  • Ghost Gaming
  • Nova Esports NA
  • XSET
  • The Unnamed
  • Lazarus
  • Mezexis eSports NA
  • The Panthers
  • Enigma Fan Club
  • PassionFruit
  • 19esports
  • Knights
  • LeveLx
  • Syndicate
  • TeamJCR
  • The Hitlist
  • Helping Quit Addiction

Format

In terms of format, the event is relatively simple considering how short a weekend is following such a long season. Specifically, a total of 18 matches will decide the competition – with 6 matches a day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Teams will be earning points through fishing for kills and placing as high as possible. Accordingly, here’s what the Points Distribution looks like for the event:

  • Kill Points – 1 per kill
  • Placement – 1st (15), 2nd (12), 3rd (10), 4th (8), 5th (6), 6th (4), 7th (2), 8-12th (1), 13-16th (0)

Schedule for the PMPL NA Finals 2021

Predictions

Naturally, we’ll base off our predictions on the back of the standings of the regular season. Let me splay them out for you below:

So, let’s reflect a little on this leaderboard and make some statements.

To begin with, I think it’s quite evident that Ghost Gaming is clearly dominant and is the heavy favourite heading into this finals event. Indeed, they dwarf the remaining competition, having a lead of substantial 100 points.

Meanwhile, matters are way more contested further down. Accordingly, I’d consider that Nova Esports NA is the clear second placed team, with another gaping margin between themselves and third place.

Credits: PUBG Mobile Esports Twitter

Now, XSET, The Unnamed and Lazarus make up the next tier of competition, as they contest for the top half of the competition.

Then again, we can talk about tiers all we want, but competitive battle royale is never about past statistics. It all matters on whether or not the team shows up on the day and can remain consistent for the three days of competition.

In terms of strategy, it’s clear that placement does have a higher weight than kills, but to win teams will need to strike a balance. Getting a few kills but dropping low in placement and vice versa is definitely not what you want.

Week 3

Week 3 wasnโ€™t bad either, the team sat in third position with a couple of good placements in those 15 rounds. The super weekend wasnโ€™t as good unfortunately, only getting them 8th place with 86 points.

How to Watch PMPS Korea Season 1: teams, format, schedule, streams, predictions

With such as rich number of regions involved, the PMPS can be quite head-spinning and delightful to keep track of. Indeed, here at esporstguide, we’re a massive fan of how Tencent is gripping the world with constant competitive coverage – such as the PMPS Korea Season 1 which is almost upon us. Read on to learn how to watch!

Event Background

I’d like to point out a few things. Firstly, this is one of PUBG Mobile‘s first attempt at engaging the Korean audience. By placing $62,499 on the line, this is easily an experiment to check how viable the esport would be in this region.

Secondly, the event is still building up in terms of competitors. Accordingly, running from 22nd April top the 6th June, the entire list of participants is still in progress. Overall, teams will be invited based on their performance from the PMSC 2020 1st Half and Second Half.

Below are potential participants for the event:

  • XENON (PMSC 2020 1st Half Winner)
  • ArCRESTART (PMSC 2020 2nd Half Winner)
  • GC Busan Reject, 5K, Ace Skill Arsenal Korea, T1, Axis, PTWKOREA – a total of six seeds from the remainder of the 2nd Half event are supposedly invited to the event
  • An additional 16 spots rewarded to the winners of the online qualifier and are not direct invites

This adds up 24 teams hungry to win and most of all, try and earn a seed into the Global Tournament happening shortly this season!

Format

As always appreciated with these PUBG Mobile events, the format is regularly different and exciting. Split into three stages, here’s how everything will work out in simple terms:

  1. Qualifier – (04/22-25) – 4 days of Qualifiers with 5 matches per day. The top 16 teams will use points tallied from their top performances (!5 of them) to join the 8 direct invites
  2. Weekly Stage – (05/08-23) – with all 24 teams decided, six days of Weekly Stage now take place. Across each day 6 games will be played daily with three groups of 6 randomly formed at this point in time. Once again, the top 16 teams will move into the Weekly Final.
  3. Weekly Final – (05/29-06/06) – with 16 teams left, this is where it gets spicy. Now, 4 days of Weekly Final with 6 daily matches multiplied by Benefits Points earned in Weekly Stage. The overall winner grabs the Global Tournament seed!

Schedule for the PMPS Korea Season 1

So far, there’s a lot of wording to digest. With that being said, here’s a detailed schedule right from the competition site which offers all of the necessary details:

With how young and novel the competitive PUBG Mobile community is in the Korean region, teams are still making a name for themselves. Regardless, I do believe that the standings from the most recent event in the region – the Street Challenge 2020 Fall, offers some valuable insight.

Bearing this in mind, I’ll list the top competitors from that event below:

  1. ArCRESTART
  2. GC Busan Reject
  3. 5K
  4. Ace Skill Arsenal KOREA
  5. T1
  6. Axis

Again, these are simply indications of who may sit on the top. Of course, with the nature of battle royale, literally quite anything can happen with some magic. We’ll be here to catch all that magic.

Virtus Pro PUBG Mobile – Understanding Why

Unlike many esports changes in the industry, we have a tonne of insight into this move. Take a look at what Sergey Glamazda, the CEO of Virtus.pro has to say about this decision:

Market research shows that mobile games are gaining more and more audience every year. We also conducted a survey among our fans, and many of them expressed interest in a possible PUBG MOBILE roster for Virtus.pro.

Predictions for the PMPL NA 2021

This is definitely tough. With how incredibly vast the competitive PMPL NA 2021 community is, new teams are constantly on the rise. Accordingly, the last major event for this reason traces back to the PMPL Spring Split 2020: Americas event back in August of last year.

PMPL NA 2021 Season 1

One thing to note is that the Invited teams are referred to as the favourites for the event. As you can see. a big name such as Ghost Gaming is making its debut into the scene by acquiring the former S7/Tempo Storm roster. However, one cannot ignore the potent young talent in the Qualifier section.

Anybody can win – that’s the glory of competitive battle royale. However, not everyone can do it consistently.

Rivalling Worlds 2020 – PMGC Viewership

This was the first iteration of the event – it had to be a success. What’s more, the online environment didn’t serve as an advantage either. Overall, these numbers are simply phenomenal. For comparison, here’s how Worlds 2020 fared last year:

worlds

Competitive League of Legends has been around for many years now. Only this past year has PUBG Mobile really taken things to the next level – it’s paying off.

In terms of peaks, the 3,801,998 is astounding and was achieved on Finals Day 1. Headed into next season, Tencent should focus more on regular events and maybe, if allowable, get the event to an offline format.

What a hint of success for PUBG Mobile!
