Rainbow Six Esports Panel Recap

Rainbow Six Esports updates – The Six Invitational

The 20 teams currently slotted in for the Six Invitational will keep their spot, and the prize pool will remain unchanged as well ($3,000,000). More details about the exact date and location are to be revealed soon. So be sure to notify yourselves here on our website whenever Ubisoft announces them.

Transfer Window & roster changes

Draws

Now, onto some more Esports changes. First up on the list is that draws are no longer possible, and that as a replacement, games will be decided through best of 3 overtimes. This will result in more exciting games for both the players, and the fans watching.

Extended rosters

Another thing that Ubisoft mentioned, is that they are introducing extended rosters for the 2021 season. This will allow organizations and teams to fulfill teams at a Regional and International level. Teams will now have a maximum cap of 12 players in total to represent them in Rainbow Six Esports events.

Coaching Timeouts and Overtime scores

Other changes that were mentioned were the coaching timeout rule and the Overtime scoring. The coaching timeout rule will allow coaches to pause and strategize new ideas with their players, whereas the overtime scoring (that comes alongside the no draw regulation) will work as follows:

  • Win = 3 points
  • Overtime Win = 2
  • Overtime Loss = 1
  • Loss = 0

These changes will allow the Rainbow Six Esports scene to grow further and help become a major esport. Hopefully in the years to come, we’ll see Rainbow Six alongside other major esport titles like LoL, CS:GO, and Dota 2.

Six Invitational 2021 postponed

Ubisoft have announced that the Six Invitational 2021 is postponed and will play out at a later date. Here is their statement:

Six Invitational 2021 postponed – Why?

In the statement above, Ubisoft address that the main reason for the postponement of the tournament is because of the new pandemic rules set in France. This new rule dictates that all non-EU travelers are not allowed in the country. In the statement they also mention that they have been working tirelessly alongside their partner, Live Nation to try and find alternative situations to resolve this issue. With the problems that come with a LAN Esports event it was totally out of the question.

The event, originally intended to commence between the 9th and 21st of February would have been the biggest Rainbow Six event in 2021. The tournament will feature 20 of the best teams, from several regions, competing against each other for the title of best in the world.

What’s next?

With the event being postponed, Ubisoft will have to take their time and asses when the pandemic slows down. Maybe in due time, it will be possible for the Six Invitational 2021 to be hosted in a LAN environment.

Tons of fans are excited for this event as this would be the first major offline Rainbow Six event since the pandemic started, despite it featuring no audience.

Let’s take a look at the details announced for the Six Invitational 2021:

  • Bearing in mind the venue, Ubisoft is moving away from Montreal for the first time for the event! Everything will now take place at their developmental studio in Paris.
  • In terms of teams, 20 are competing from the regions of LATAM, APAC, NA and EU, restricted to 6 members each
  • Specifically, the prize pool for the event will range from $500,000 to $3,000,000 depending on the help from the SI 2021 Battle Pass.
  • Also, the event is running from the 9th February to the 21st.

Like any other esport, competitive Rainbow Six Siege took a hit last year. Granted, the Six Invitational 2021 will be the first international event since last year. Likely, everything is going to happen with no live crowd either. However, an offline connection is definitely great.

North American League US Division Finals 2020 – Event Preview

Sometime last week, we covered the most recent change in competitive Rainbow Six Siege. Specifically, the convergence of the US and Canadian Divisions of the competition. Granted, we’ll know be diving into the US Division 2020 Finals which is two weeks away!

First and foremost, note that qualification for this event precedes the change – so the involved teams are strictly from the former U.S. Division. Accordingly, the top 4 teams seeded from Stage 2 of the competition are back at it again to fight for dominance.

Here they are, fighting for $150,000:

  • DarkZero Esports
  • TSM
  • Oxygen Esports
  • Spacestation Gaming

The single-elimination bracket will kick off on the 22nd January and run up until the 23rd. Fortunately, the event will be hosted in an offline environment at the HyperX Esports Arena.

Accordingly, this is the climax following the initial season of the newly devised leagues for competitive Rainbow Six Siege. Bearing this in mind, the US Division Finals 2020 will need to prove to be a great event to signify this end.

As we grow nearer to the event, we’ll be offering an in-depth content piece on everything you need to know. What’s certain is that there is no one clear winner, which is extremely exciting!

Rainbow Six APAC Finals – Briefing

North Division:

The Giants vs Cloud9 finals was the one that everyone was eager to watch. It kicked off on Coastline, Giants’ map pick and it started out really well for them on the offense. However, when Cloud9 were on their attack, they also replied in dominant fashion. Eventually winning the first map 8-7. Next up was Cloud9’s map pick Oregon. Here Cloud9 seamlessly took down Giants Gaming 7-4, and with it the Grand Finals win!

Oceanic Nationals:

In Oceania, we had Wildcard Gaming take on the Pittsburgh Knights. First map was Wildcard’s pick, Villa, a very strong map for them historically. And it showed in the end scoreline as they won the map 7-4. Next up was Theme Park, where the Knights felt determined to get revenge on their first map loss. Here, the score line was way closer, as the Knights took the 2nd map 8-6 and tied the series. For their final map, the teams played on Coastline. Wildcard started out strong, winning 3 on the offense, but the Knights were equally as good and managed to take the win.

South Asia Nationals:

In South Asia we had a closer best of 3 series for the Grand Finals. The MercenarieZ were leading the first map, Oregon. However a few rounds later, Union Gaming caught on, and managed to get them into overtime. Ultimately, it was all for nothing, as the MercenarieZ closed out the first map with an 8-7 score line. Villa was the 2nd map lined up for the South Asia finals. Here we saw another dominant performance from the MercenarieZ as they won the 2nd map 8-6.

We hope you enjoyed the Rainbow Six APAC Finals as much as we did, and we’re looking forward to the next big Rainbow Six event
