North American League 2021 – Merging with Canada

Ubisoft just let out a massive new update with regards to competitive Rainbow Six Siege. All-in-all, this piece of news can be seen both negatively and positively. Indeed, it’s official that the North American League 2021 will now be merging with the Canadian League!

Earlier last year, Ubisoft announced the two separate leagues, as divisions. In a recent announcement for 2021, they are now one. Indeed, a unified North American Division is in the works. Here’s what Ubisoft had to comment:

We believe that this unification is in the best interest of growing the Canada and US Rainbow Six communities and will provide an interesting competitive element in 2021 as we continue to improve our league.

Ubisoft

Such a merge is taking place at all tiers, including the Challenger League. Eveything will soon be explained ahead of the 2021 season of the North American League 2021.

Why is the North American League 2021 merging?

In their announcement, Ubisoft fails to mention the reason behind the merging. That’s definitely a little suspicious. What might be the case is that individually, especially the Canadian league, viewership or support was poor. By merging the leagues, there’s less hassle for Ubisoft to organize two separate leagues too. Probably, Ubisoft bit off more than they could chew, or the online situation has made coordinating more than necessary impossible.

On the other hand, this could lead to better competition and new blood for the NA league.

Regardless, we’re hopeful.

European League 2020 Finals – Event Preview

Indeed, with the Six Invitational 2021 on the horizon, we’re excited! The competitive Rainbow Six Siege community simply cannot wait. However, until then, we still have some competition to enjoy. Specifically, the European League 2020 Finals are going to start 2021 with a bang. Here’s a quick preview!

Hosted by Ubisoft and FACEIT, the European League 2020 Finals aims to whittle out the best team in the region. Following the regular season, the top 4 teams have been invited to compete for €100,000! Here are the four teams:

  • BDS Esport
  • G2 Esports
  • Virtus.pro
  • Natus Vincere

The event will take place from 15-17th January. Seemingly, though we’re awaiting new details, the competition should involve a simple double-elimination bracket.

Predictions for the European League 2020 Finals

Following the completion of the inaugural regular season of the new European League, expectations are high. Besides these general expectations, we have some easy predictions we can throw out there.

The favourites for the event are BDS Esport. After tying for first place at Stage 1 and dominating Stage 2 with a considerable lead of 6 points – they’re in the top position.

However, they aren’t the clear winners by any stretch of the imagination. In my opinion I’d consider G2 Esports as the second favourite not necessarily due to performance but due to the fact that Natus Vincere and Virtus.pro have both undergone roster changes.

Due to this, there’s an element of surprise which could really flip this event on its head.

Heading closer, we’ll be sure to provide an extensive How to Watch featured article for you all.

Tempo Storm releasing Rainbow Six team

American esports organization Tempo Storm has just announced that they will be releasing their main Rainbow Six team. Here is their announcement:

Tempo Storm releasing Rainbow Six team – Why?

We’ve seen multiple cases of organizations and teams exiting esports titles, and releasing rosters during this global crisis in 2020. And this time round, it’s a similar case with Tempo Storm, as the pandemic “has rendered their stay in the NA Pro League unsustainable”. They are currently discussing with their players to find them new homes in the Rainbow Six Siege scene if they choose to continue competing. They are also working alongside Ubisoft to find a solid replacement for their NA Pro League spot so that the other competing teams are not affected by this departure.

The Tempo Storm roster was dear to many, despite not having as much success as some other rosters, the team was showing some promise throughout the year.

Here are some of their best results:

It’s been a very disappointing year for the North American Rainbow Six Siege scene, as organizations like Evil Geniuses, Luminosity, and eUnited have all departed the esport. This leads to many doubts with regards to Ubisoft’s plans moving forward with the future of their R6S esports scene.

A truly massive win for TSM here – their first ever in the scene! Only a month ago they fell short of first place to DarkZero Esports to claim second in the region tournament to get here. Beyond the obvious victory, Spacestation Gaming impressed the community with an incredible performance despite a poor showing earlier in the season, taking down both DarkZero and TSM.

The result of this Major will definitely shake up the rankings of the region, with the newly crowned TSM and Spacestation vying for leadership.

Team Empire take down BDS to win November Six Major in Europe

With the weekend finally concluding, we saw Team Empire take down the notorious BDS Esport to win the November Six Major in Europe. Here is how it went down:

Final Standings + Winnings:

  • 1st – $62,500 – Team Empire
  • 2nd – $31,250 – BDS Esport
  • 3rd – $18,750 – Virtus.pro
  • 4th – $12,500 – Tempra Esports

Team Empire win November Six Major in Europe – How did they do it?

Semifinal

Team Empire was slotted in versus Tempra Esports in a best of 3 of the Semifinals. Maps picked were: Villa, Clubhouse, Oregon respectively. Tempra took Villa with an excellent 7-3 scoreline, but unfortunately fell short in the rest of the series as Empire won Clubhouse 7-2 and Oregon 7-1.

Upper Bracket Final

Next up was BDS, which have been showing signs of dominance, in the past few Six Majors. Fortunately for Team Empire, they took down the reigning champs 2-1, dropping them down to the losers bracket. However this was only temporary, as BDS eliminated Virtus.pro from the event, and climbed back up into the Grand Final.

Grand Final

Team Empire were given a default win for not dropping into the losers bracket, which meant that BDS really had to cook things up in order to shake things around in their favor. Unfortunately for them, the series was over way before they could respond to Team Empire’s domination in the server. This resulted in Team Empire dominating their region to win the November Six Major in Europe.

Here is their reaction after their victory:

With BDS’ most recent success, it was probable that they would be rising to the top again; however with a new super star team rising in Empire, matches will never be certain.

Rainbow Six Siege Tips and Tricks – A Practical Guide

In the past two episodes of Tips and Tricks, we’ve covered the Tier 1 esports titles of League of Legends and DOTA 2. Indeed, MOBAs are a massive part of the industry. Accordingly, in this episode, we’ll be offering our very own Rainbow Six Siege Tips and Tricks for your very own personal use!

Mechanical Skills

Unlike MOBAs, a tactical defusal first-person-shooter such as Rainbow Six Siege carries a stronger focus on mechanical skills. Naturally, there is an imperative focus on mechanical aim, to have an incredible connection between your wrist and aim. Headshots in Rainbow Six Siege are essential to winning gunfights, as all are one-shot kills.

Beyond pure repetition, here are some other Rainbow Six Siege Tips and Tricks to bear in mind:

  • Experiment with sensitivity – with how important good aim is, adjusting dpi and other tweaks can make a world of difference
  • Utilizing the leaning function – looking around corners with just your head popping out reduces your chance of getting caught running
  • Improve your aim with aim training software too – dedicating regular time can assist in this regard
  • Pre-firing corners – with how quickly you can die, using knowledge while knowing when to pre-fire a corner is essential
  • Mastering movement – fluid change in direction and manoeuvring through maps perfectly is essential in game-defining moments

In-Game Knowledge and Awareness

Bearing those in mind, proper aim and movement will only get you so far in a tactical shooter. In fact, in-game awareness is just as, if not more, important. Mastering strategies and other factors to your gameplay is essential. Here are some pointers below:

Rainbow Six Siege Tips and Tricks
Credits: Ubisoft
  • Get thoroughly familiar with maps. This includes knowing the best strategies on offence and defense in any situation. This comes into play in knowing where to place trap, cameras and other utilities.
  • Build a pool of agents – know the strengths of each agent and how to counter each one. Making the most of your agent and playing your role well is essential in competition.
  • Make use of sprint when necessary – weigh whether it’s worth making noise
  • Watch the in-game tutorials – three tutorials which point out the essentials of the title
  • Keep up to date with the meta changes, understanding agent and map changes
  • Play custom games and develop go-to strategies in certain situations to minimize surprises in-game, instead of relying on practice
  • Stay up to date with the competitive scene and watch competitive games

Personal and Interpersonal – Rainbow Six Siege Tips and Tricks

Some of the most memorable moments in tactical shooters are the most stressful. Oftentimes, players are put in unwinnable or difficult situations, being a man down or away from the objective. It’s in these moments that the personal and interpersonal tips and tricks come into play. Read on for some of them:

  • Improved call-outs; maintaining your heart rate and making clear callouts while also taking in teammates’ input is essential
  • Having the ‘clutch factor’ – the ability to make the right plays at the right time to execute an incredible win. Remaining calm is ideal, while making use of in-game knowledge and keeping your aim straight.
  • Learn from your teammates and enemies – if a certain role is a touch unsuitable for your personality, try different agents out while learning from why it wasn’t easy to manage

As a Tier 1 esport, competitive Rainbow Six Siege is visceral and incredibly strategic. Another tip outside of those mentioned is to gain as many frames-per-second as possible through your PC and to have an ideal internet connection – together with our tips, you’re good to go.

R6 European League Season 1 Stage 2 Recap

  • 2nd – € 10,000 – Team Empire

How did they do it?

The tournament format for the R6 European League Season 1 Stage 2 was a Round-Robin league format. This allowed BDS to verse every single team in the event, which certainly helped them get the maximum points.

Team BDS kicked off the event with some outstanding performances which allowed them to lead the pack with a 4-0-0 score line, remaining undefeated by the 4th playday. However in the 5th playday, they matched up versus Team Vitality, which held their ground versus BDS, and tied the match 6-6. This meant that BDS received their first tie at the event, and were still at the top of the leaderboard.

The games continued, and BDS had another successful playday after taking down Team Secret in Playday 6. Although, when the 7th playday came around, Natus Vincere showed up and had a brilliant performance versus BDS which caused their first loss at 2nd stage of the R6 EU league. This loss versus Na’Vi meant that the team was 5-1-1 in terms of scores, and that Team Secret was catching up.

BDS upped their game, and won the final 2 playday matches to seal the deal and after 4 intense weeks of competition, BDS ended the event in 1st place.

What did this event mean for Europe?

The top 4 teams at the R6 European League Season 1 Stage 2, have all received a spot at the Six Major, which is to be held between the 6th and 8th of November. The event will feature a huge prizepool of $125,000 USD to be distributed to all participating teams.
