Competitive Rainbow Six Siege roared to the top this weekend with the likes of the yearly Six Invitational. Indeed, the $3,000,000 concluded only yesterday with an incredible climax. As you’ve likely heard, the Ninjas in Pyjamas Six Invitational Champions have left quite a ripple in the scene. Read on as we view their journey to victory!
Ninjas in Pyjamas Six Invitational – Not The Favourites
Right off the bat, I’d like to point out that NiP were not the favourites heading into this event. Bearing this in mind, they weren’t too hot out the gates too.
Starting in the group stage, they earned a third seed in Group B under the likes of TSM and MIBR. At this point, seeing the likes of two Brazilian teams, MIBR and NiP, was already quite promising for the region. That’s where we jump into the bracket.
Here, Ninjas in Pyjamas went on quite the hot streak. Indeed, after taking down BDS Esports, they moved on to sweep FaZe. Further on, they then took down MIBR. As the community buzzed with excitement for the surprising run, the team found the favourite waiting for them in the grand finals – Team Liquid – another Brazilian team.
After an incredible undefeated bracket run, Ninjas in Pyjamas thwarted Liquid’s attempt to hang on and claimed what was almost theirs last year. Definitely, after losing last year in the grand finals, this win was very much deserved.
Beyond this win for Ninjas in Pyjamas, it’s rather glaring that the top 3 teams are all Brazilian. Accordingly, it’s no shy fact that Brazilian R6 is currently the best in the world.
With the Six Invitational being underway for a week and a half now we’ve had a couple of teams drop out and get eliminated from the event. One of these were G2 Esports as they got eliminated from the Six Invitational pretty early on in the playoffs stage. Here’s how it all went down.
G2 Esports eliminated from Six Invitational – Briefing
Group Stage
G2 Esports did not have the best start to the event, as they lost the initial group stage matches. These games were against solid teams like FaZe, Team oNe, FURIA, as well as Team BDS and Team Empire. These losses meant that the team had very low chances of qualifying to the next stage. However in their following matches, the team switched on and started winning. The first team they beat was CYCLOPS athlete gaming, and then wins versus Cloud9 and DarkZero Esports followed after.
Playoffs
This result got them just enough points to reach 8th place in groups and qualify to the playoffs. However, they only managed to reach the lower bracket of playoffs due to their poor qualification. Their first opponent was team Parabellum from Canada, and they left every G2 Esports fan in awe. Here Parabellum pulled off one of their best performances and took down the European team with a 2-0 sweep to eliminate them from the event. G2 Esports finish the event in 13th-16th place, grabbing only $55,000 in prize money.
What’s next?
With a huge number of teams eliminated, we just need to figure out which teams out of the last 4 (Team Liquid, TSM, NiP, MiBR) will come out on top! Tune into the event’s broadcasts and keep yourself updated with our website for all the latest esports news!
For the past week, the Six Invitational 2021 has given the community an awesome event. Kicking off on May 11th, we’ve reached the halfway point with Playoffs taking place later this week. Accordingly, let’s recap the $3,000,000 event and see what to expect!
Six Invitational 2021 – Group Stage Recap
A total of 20 teams dived into the competition, though officially 18 made it to the competition. Of these 18, three were eliminated this past week. Furthermore, the top 8 teams were moved to the Winner Bracketwhile 8 lower teams were put in the Lower Bracket.
Here are the final standings of the Group Stages:
Taking a Look at the Playoffs
Bearing this in mind, the remaining teams have been seeded as outlined in the following image.
And what a turn of events so far. Indeed, the event has shaped up to be a banger so far. From May 19th to 23rd, the double-elimination bracket will involve BO3 matches. However, in the Grand Final there will be a BO5 match, with unlimited overtime and a map advantage for the upper bracket team.
This event will continue to make things interesting – we’ll keep an eye out for further updates.
With the biggest R6 event this year kicking off yesterday we saw some strong performances, as well as some upsets. Most were surprised that Team Empire managed to top the standings with a 3-0 record at the Six Invitational. Here’s how they did it:
Team Empire top Standings with a 3-0 record at Six Invitational – How did they do it?
Team Empire kicked off the event with a dominant victory in their first match against Team Liquid. Empire won 7-4 and their next match-up was in Playday 1-B against Team BDS. The favourite for this match was Team BDS, but Empire showed that they made it to the Six Invitational for a reason. And this was clear in this match versus BDS as Empire started off strongly, and ended up winning the match in overtime 8-7. For their final match on Day 1 of the event, Empire took on Team oNe esports. The match immediately went in favour of the Russian squad, as they took 5 rounds on the defense, and then 2 on the offense, concluding the match with a 7-4 scoreline.
With their very dominant start to the event, Team Empire are currently sitting in 1st place of Group A. They are sitting high above teams like Liquid, BDS, oNe Esports, FURIA, and FaZe.
What’s next for Team Empire?
Team Empire’s next matches continue tomorrow, and their first match-up is against G2 Esports. In this second set of matches, Empire have 2 more games, playing against DarkZero as well as Cloud9. Certainly a couple of challenging matches, but if they keep their momentum, they might be the strongest team heading into the playoffs.
For those unaware, the Six Invitational is competitive Rainbow Six Siege’s top event of the year. Accordingly, we’ve already provided details on how to watch the event here on esportsguide. Bearing this in mind, we’ve assembled some predictions for the Six Invitational 2021 in this featured article!
Heartbreak for Virtus.Pro
To begin with, we’ll have to announce some sad news. Due to the certain health issues, Virtus.pro has been confirmed as not being able to attend the event, reducing the number of teams from 19 to now 18. Naturally, they won’t be included in the following Tier List of predictions.
We’ll be basing the following Tier system on the international rankings.
Tier 4
Oxygen Esports
Parabellum Esports
FURIA Esports
CYCLOPS athlete gaming
Mkers
Coming in at Tier 4, these are teams not many believe have a shot, yet they should definitely not be counted out. One team to note here is Oxygen Esports who although are ranked low ion the international rankings, have a massive potential upset after placing so well at the NAL 2021 Stage 1 event as champions.
Do note that teams in this Tier are usually originating from lesser known regions such as CIS and APAC. In the history of the Six Invitational, such teams haven’t been able to leave much of an impact in this regard. Yet again, who knows what can happen here.
Tier 3
Team oNe eSports
Team Empire
FaZe Clan
G2 Esports
Moving over to Tier 3, we’ve got 4 more teams looking to pick a fight with more preferred teams. What’s G2 Esports doing here you ask? Well, although being victorious in Europe last year, they haven’t shown much success since last year, especially after finishing 7-8th at last year’s event.
On the other hand, Team Empire is a different story – finding more recent success with a win at the Six November Major for Europe. Let’s see if they’ll manage to surprise us at this upcoming event. Let’s keep moving with our Six Invitational 2021 Predictions!
Tier 2
Team Liquid
DarkZero Esports
Ninjas in Pyjamas
Spacestation Gaming
Ok so, now we’re reaching some of the top contenders. These four are definitely teams who are regularly coming just short of absolute victory. Recently, Spacestation Gaming haven’t really shown their true forming, especially after winning the last event of this iteration.
Moving over, Team Liquid and Ninjas in Pyjamas are also in the mix as teams that are hungry for that first victory at the top event of the scene. Probably out of the four, DarkZero Esports are looking the most dangerous as of late.
Tier 1
BDS Esports
TSM
Giants Gaming
Cloud9
These are our top 4, based on international ranking. While we’re certain you’ve heard of both TSM and BDS Esport, the leaders of the NAL and EU leagues, the other two might be new for you. Speaking of which, Giants Gaming and Cloud9 both hail from APAC and deserve your attention. With these 4 rarely intermingling with one another, this is an incredible opportunity to see whether or not APAC has a chance here to make a deep run.
Viewership
I’ll conclude by saying that we expect a strong viewership for this event to demonstrate the livelihood of the esports scene. This could definitely help influence our next Esports Tier List – let’s see how the Six Invitational 2021.

Recently, they fell down our esports tier list – let’s see How to Watch this incredible event which could change all of that later this year!
Event Background
For those unaware, the Six Invitational is a yearly celebration of competitive Rainbow Six Siege. Accordingly, the top teams in the world are seeded for this event in order to try and claim international dominance. With 20 teams planned to arrive, they’ll be competing for a staggering prize pool of $3,000,000. Furthermore, the event will run from 11th May up to 23rd May.
Who are these top teams you ask? Here they are, listed below, qualifying thanks to Global Standings:
BDS Esport
Cloud9
DarkZero Esports
FaZe Clan
G2 Esports
Giants Gaming
MIBR
Ninjas in Pyjamas
Oxygen Esports
Spacestation Gaming
Team Liquid
Team oNe eSports
TSM
Virtus.pro
CYCLOPS athlete gaming
Mkers
Parabellum Esports
FURIA Esports
Wildcard Gaming
Team Empire
Unfortunately, due to flight restrictions, Wildcard Gaming will sadly not be making it to Paris for the offline event. Indeed, the format will go ahead as planned with 19 teams instead of 20.
Format
We’ve got 12 days of exciting gameplay which Ubisoft plans to use wisely. The event is split into two stages – a Group Stage and Playoffs.
Starting with Group Stage on the 11th May, teams have been split into Two Round Robins (one group of 10, one group of 9). Accordingly, each team plays each other once in quick BO1 matches. Here, teams will fight to be in the top 8 in order to progress to the Playoffs. Groups are as follows:
Furthermore, the Playoffs from 19-23rd May, a double-elimination bracket will take place. BO3 bracket games will precede the BO5 grand final – noting that the winner’s bracket team will earn a 1 map advantage in the Grand Final.

Let’s rewind the clock and look at the Six Invitational 2020 results from last year. It was here that Spacestation Gaming claimed victory over Ninjas in Pyjamas, TSM and BDS Esport who all followed on up to 4th place.
Yet, we all know that was a year ago. Heading into this event, favourites would have to be Oxygen Esports, BDS Esport, Cloud9 and Rogue should I have to name a few. Teams will definitely be giving it there all considering the $3,000,000 prize pool on the line for these teams.
Beyond competition, here at esportsguide we have high expectations for the event in terms of viewership and assisting the community develop a love for this esport. With the main leagues suffering in this regard, this is a test to see where competitive R6 stands compared to the other esports.
The 4th playday was another overtime victory for Na’Vi as they won the head to head versus BDS Esport 8-6. Unfortunately on play day 6, the team had its first overtime loss, and this was against Team Vitality. On the 7th and 8th day, Na’Vi won both matches versus Rogue and Team Empire with dominance. By this time they were already declared champions due to BDS having more overall losses.
Despite the win in the 1st stage of the European League, Natus Vincere is far from a perfect team. In fact, in their 9th match of the league versus G2, they had one of their worst defeats yet. They lost the match 7-2 to G2 esports, which placed 5th in the league.
If you’re a competitive fan of RainbowSixSiege, it’s a great time right now! Indeed, the announcement of the Six Invitational 2021 returning in May is awesome for the scene. Following a cancellation earlier this year, Ubisoft has just come out with an official statement which we’ll be covering down here below!
Six Invitational 2021 – The Full Statement
Here’s exactly what Ubisoft had to comment about the situation:
On April 8th, we have been authorized by the government and the local authorities to hold the Six Invitational 2021 in Paris, France, from May 11th to 23rd, with no audience on-site and following strict sanitary measures. The Playoffs will be organized in the Palais Brongniart, a historical venue at the heart of Paris
However, there is some unfortunate news right now. Accordingly, on April 13th the French government has announced that flights from Brazil are not possible. Accordingly, Ubisoft are reconsidering how they will implement teams such as MIBG and FURIA Esports.
Regardless, we’re very hopeful for this event, as the community needs it. The aim here is to have all 20 teams make it and qualify to crown one international champion.
Bearing this in mind, we’ll be here at every step in the way to provide you with all the viewership details.
Both teams took on each other on the map Consulate. Heading into this matchup, G2 were the heavy favourites, with G2 with the social vote leaning towards them with a 90%. They started the match in dominant fashion, winning the half 4-2 in the defense.
In the 15th round (the final round of overtime), both of the teams were in a 2v2 situation. Here, G2 had to retake the planted defuser, and Team Empire were defending it. As you may know, the defuser for the bomb is of 7 seconds, but somehow the bomb was defused with 7.53 seconds. Here are the final moments of that round:
Concluding thoughts
This win is Empire’s first in the RainbowSix European League, and it might cost G2 Esports their top spot in the league. Consulate has become a very common map within the European teams, as it has been played a total of 7 times so far.
Team Empire’s upcoming matches in the European League are against TrainHard eSport, Natus Vincere, and Team Secret. Certainly not going to be the easiest task for the team. But maybe with this performance they might get the motivation high enough to win versus these teams. The team placed 2nd in the European League Stage 2 of 2020, and are looking towards getting a similar result this time round!
