Sizz disqualified from coaching during NA RLCS X Championship

Rocket League Esports have just announced that NRG Coach Sizz is banned and disqualified from coaching during the NA (North American RLCS X Championship). Here is their statement:

NRG Coach Sizz disqualified from coaching during NA RLCS X Championship – Why?

In the reddit thread above, Psyonix Ian points his fingers at Emiliano “Sizz” Benny as he emphasises that he broke RLCS and RL Player Code of Conduct. Psyonix have carried out an investigation on their part and have found some concrete evidence. This evidence shows that Sizz was disrespecting and attempting to humiliate a staff member of Psyonix. This is the clip in question:

This is obviously not something that Psyonix or any tournament organiser could put behind, and discipline had to take place. This coaching ban didn’t stop NRG GarretG to make some fun out of it all:

What’s next?

Heading into the NA RLCS X Championship, NRG were among some of the favourites to win the entire event. With their very recent success in regional competitions, people had them dominating all throughout the tournament. Now with this circumstance, that might be a bit of a tougher task for NRG.

At the time of writing, NRG are yet to make a statement about the matter.

XSET Parting ways with AlphaKep

North American organisation XSET have announced that they are parting ways with one of their Rocket League players, AlphaKep. Here is their announcement:

XSET Parting ways with AlphaKep – Who is he?

23-year-old Austin “AlphaKep” Kepner is a professional Rocket League player from America. He kicked off his career in 2017 with team Ducks on Quack and then slowly climbed through the ranks. He played with Noble Esports, Avidity Esports, Randy Gibbons’ River Rats, as well as Stromboli. And today we saw the conclusion of his 10-month career path with XSET.

Here are some of his best achievements with XSET:

  • 5th in the RLCS Season X – Spring: The Grid NA – 20th April 2021 – $7,000
  • 5th-8th at the RLCS Season X – Fall: NA Regional Event 2 – 20th September 2020 – $4,000
  • 9th-10th in RLCS Season X – Spring: NA Major – 22nd May 2021 – $3,000

What’s next?

The main reason for this departure was probably due to disappointing results in regional competitions. On XSET’s side, hopefully they manage to find a suitable third to fill in their final role. And from AlphaKep’s perspective, we’re sure that he’ll find a new home soon. He’s even expressed his feelings on twitter, stating that his hunger for competition is still there, and he’ll be back in no time.

NRG win RLCS X Spring North American Major – How did they do it?

Group Stage

NRG started it all by getting a 3-1 scoreline during the group stage. They won against G2 Esports, Version1, SpaceStation Gaming and only lost against FaZe Clan.

Playoffs

Their first match-up in the playoffs was against one of their main rivals, Envy. This team Envy roster has shown a lot of promise in recent events, and was one of the tournament favorites. During this game, NRG stepped up big time, winning the series with a clean 4-0.

With this win, they moved on to play the semifinals against Rogue. They too have had solid performances recently, but they didn’t show their potential in the semis as they got stomped by NRG 4-2.

Grand Final

Whilst NRG were climbing the top bracket, G2 were slowly working their way up the bottom bracket. To get their spot, G2 esports took down the Susquehanna Soniqs as well as FaZe Clan. Heading into the Grand Final match-up, no one was sure who was going to win. Games went back and forth, but with such a great tournament run, NRG were unstoppable all throughout. They won the series 4-2, and were crowned champions of the final major event in the 10th season of RLCS. Here are the final moments of that series:

Intel World Open Announced – More Rocket League

This time last year, the Intel World Open was going to make history by being tied to the Olympics. However, last year everything had to be cancelled for obvious reasons but now, we’re back. Indeed, Intel is once again pushing the event and tied to the Olympics yet again – let’s do it!

Intel World Open – Multiple Esports

In order to merit being part of the Olympics, this event will only feature non-violent, non-bloody esports. Namely, the likes of Street Fighter V and Rocket League will be featured. Bearing this in mind, we naturally have a keen interest for Rocket League, which will host a $250,000 prize pool on its own.

In terms of details, the finals for the IWO Regional Championship for Rocket League will take place from 11-14th July.

With lots of details yet to be announced, this is generally an awesome piece of news for general esports. Indeed, this will be an opportunity for the esports to find its place at the Olympics in Tokyo later on this year, besides traditional esports.

Further down the line, this could potentially lead to more esports being allowed to take part in this rare opportunity. We’ll keep an eye out for details regarding the Rocket League event.

Shadow retiring from competitive Rocket League

Professional player for Stromboli, Shadow has announced that he is retiring from competitive Rocket League. Here is his announcement:

Shadow retiring from competitive Rocket League – Who is he?

For all of you who don’t know, Daniel “Shadow” Manso is a 17-year-old Rocket League player from the United States. He started his RL career back in 2018 with Upper 90 Esports, although his stay was very short, as just 13 days later, he moved onto team Defiant. He then went back to Upper 90 Esports a couple months after, and later on in his career, represented Goat Patrol, Paradox, Charlotte Phoenix and recently Stromboli. He’s achieved $15,798 in total approximate esports earnings, and he was most successful with the Charlotte Phoenix lineup.

Here are some of his best achievements:

  • 7th-8th at RLSS North America – $13,000
  • 2nd in RLCS Season 9 North America RLRS – $10,000
  • 3rd at RLCS Season 8 North America RLRS – $9,000

Community reaction

For the most part, many professional players in the North American scene have expressed that they are very sad to see such a young and talented player depart from the esport. Shadow being only 17 means that he still has so much more to offer. Who knows, maybe he might return at some point in the future…

Shadow has not yet announced his plans for the future, but we can expect that his main focus will be on content creation and streaming full-time.
