Guild Esports crowned European Regional Champions – How did they win?

Group Stage

Guild kicked it all off with a swift lead in group A during the Group Stage. They were up against teams like Team BDS, Giants, Atlantide, and Illusion, and Guild Esports placed 1st with a 3-1 score.

Knockout Gauntlet

Due to being top 2 in their group, Guild Esports got into the knockout gauntlet, and their first opponent was Galaxy Racer. Fortunately for Guild, after losing the first game, they got 3 straight wins in the series and qualified for the playoffs.

Playoffs

Here they faced off Wolves Esports in a best of 7. At first, it heavily favoured the Wolves, as they won the initial 3 games, but Guild came back with a huge upset, winning the rest of the games and finishing the series 4-3 in their favour. After this tough victory, the team played Team BDS in the Semifinals. Again, this was another difficult series to play against the French/Spanish roster, but eventually it was Guild that came out on top, winning the series 4-3.

Grand Finals

In the Grand Final they took on an underdog of the tournament, team Aether. This orgless roster is led by Austrian player Yukeo, formerly of Dignitas and had the performance of a lifetime during the Europe regional event 3. Unfortunately, he and his team only managed to win the first game, as the strength of this Guild Esports roster was too incredible for them. The series finished 4-1 in favour of Guild Esports, and they were crowned European Regional Champions.

Season 3 of Rocket League, Everything You Need To Know

The highly anticipated Season 3 of Rocket League has finally arrived. Here’s everything that has been added in this new season!

New Rocket Pass

With every season of Rocket League, comes a new Rocket Pass, similar to most other Battle passes in different games. In this Rocket Pass, a new car is featured, the Tyranno, which uses the hitbox of the Dominus!

A big change to the Rocket Pass from previous ones is that the Pro Tier rewards are now visible before unlocking. This means that the rewards no longer consist of low-tier items, and are consistent for all Rocket Pass holders. A cool little feature about this is that all Pro Tier rewards will now feature a Painted attribute. Psyonix have also added that In order to standardize Pro Tier rewards, Certified items can no longer be found in the Rocket Pass. Certified items can still be found on items obtained via Blueprints, the Item Shop, and Fan Rewards.

Competitive Season 3 of Rocket League

Season 3 also features a couple of changes with regards to its competitive system.

The MMR threshold has been adjusted due to underpopulation in Diamond ranks and above for 3v3 and 2v2. These ranks were significantly less populated than in previous seasons, and are bringing their requirements into line for Season 3. This means that each Tier from Champion I through Grand Champion III will have a slightly wider MMR range than in Season 2. Important to bear in mind that Supersonic Legend is not affected by these changes

Extra Modes:

  • Each tier’s MMR range is now narrower to better reflect the skill distribution of these playlists. Meaning that Champion ranks or above, are now reachable at lower MMR numbers.

All Game Modes:

  • The MMR compression applied to the new season has been reduced.
  • High-Tier players will not drop as much elo with a soft MMR reset
Screenshot

New Arena

A new arena will also be arriving with Season 3. This arena is named ‘DFH Stadium (Circuit)’ and can be found in Online Playlists, Private Matches, as well as Free Play.

Season 2 Competitive Rewards

With Season 2 ending, seasonal rewards are due distribution. Players that played in competitive modes will receive custom non-tradable Rocket Boosts, and competitive titles, based on their highest rank in Season 2.

Team Queso win RLCS X Spring Europe Regional Event 2 – How did they do it?

Queso started it all in Group C, after getting 3 wins and just a single loss, they placed in 2nd, just under Dignitas. This result got them a qualification to the knockout gauntlet where they had to take on Team Liquid. Unfortunately for Queso, they were dropped down to the losers bracket after a 3-0 loss. Here they came against TrainHard eSport which gave Queso no challenge as they beat them 3-0 to qualify to the playoffs.

Their first opponent in the playoffs was Rix.GG. Team Queso got 2 game wins off the bat, Rix won the third, but it was total domination from the Spanish squad after that. Then, they took on Top Blokes in the Semifinals, and Team Queso won 4-1 to get into the Grand Finals.

Grand Finals

In the Grand Finals they matched up against the newly formed Solary roster (former Oxygen Esports). Queso started it out strong, getting 2 initial wins in the series. Solary replied back with 3 back-to-back game wins and reached match point. After that, Queso presented an incredible performance as they won the following games 5-0 and 5-1.

Concluding Thoughts

All in all, the RLCS X Spring Europe Regional Event 2 was a blast to watch. Team Queso, one of the more unknown teams in the European Rocket League scene have proven that they have what it takes to be the region’s best. We can’t wait to see what else they have in store for us in 2021!

Rizzo stepping down from G2 Rocket League

Dillon “Rizzo” Rizzo has just announced that he is stepping down from G2 as one of their main players on the Rocket League roster. Here is his announcement:

Rizzo stepping down from G2 Rocket League – Why?

If you’ve been in the scene for quite some time, you might know that Rizzo has been competing since the very beginning of Rocket League competition. Due to being in the scene for so long, he has found it hard to keep his motivation at a high, and is therefore retiring from Rocket League as a competitor.

Credits: DreamHack

For the most part, he’s mainly represented G2 Esports, as he joined them back in early 2017. Here are some of Rizzo’s best achievements in Rocket League:

  • 1st in ELEAGUE Cup 2017: Rocket League – 3th December 2017 – $70,000

What will Rizzo be doing next?

With his retirement, Rizzo will step into a content creation role. He’s currently finding it the most enjoyable for his career and will work on that for the near future.

Who will replace Rizzo?

As a replacement, G2 Esports will use their substitute Andres “dreaz” Jordan. In his announcement, Rizzo states that Dreaz might just be a temporary player till the team finds a more permanent replacement.

Solary sign ex-Oxygen Esports roster for Rocket League

French Esports organization Solary have announced that they are signing the ex-Oxygen Esports roster for their Rocket League division. Here is their announcement:

Solary signing ex-Oxygen Esports roster – Who are they?

The new Solary Rocket League lineup consists of 2 Frenchmen and 1 Belgian player. That being Victor “Ferra” Francal, Thibault “Chausette45” Grzesiak, alongside Maello “AztraL” Ernst, and to finish the squad, the team has also gotten the ex-Oxygen coach, Julie “Moon Phases” Combes. The team has had some solid performances in 2020, including early 2021. They got a high placement of 4th in the RLCS X Winter EU Regional event 3, and a 5th/6th placement at the RLCS X EU Major.

What happened?

Oxygen released their previous squad just recently. The main reason for the removal of the lineup was not identified. However, now we know that it was because the organisation wanted to bring on a North American squad instead.

The roster that Solary picked up, certainly has a lot to deliver. First up on their agenda is the Spring Closed Qualifier for the European “The Grid” event. In this tournament they are matching against a myriad of other solid teams, such as: Team Liquid, FC Barcelona, and so on… It is certainly not going to be a tough challenge for the Solary squad, but hopefully they are hungrier than ever, under a new team.

NRG win RLCS X North American Major

This past weekend we saw a lot of esports events take place, and in one of them, we saw NRG win the RLCS X North American Major. Here is how it all went down:

NRG win RLCS X North American Major – How did they do it?

They first started it all with a 3-2 victory against Version1 in the Winners Quarterfinals. They then advanced onto the Winner Semifinals against Spacestation and won 4-1. Team Envy’s mighty roster was next in the Winners’ Finals, and despite Envy’s recent success, NRG came out on top to get into the Grand Finals.

Finals

Whilst NRG were pulling off some great performances in the winners bracket, Rogue were slowly creeping up the lower bracket. They beat teams like G2 Esports, Spacestation Gaming, The Peeps as well as Team Envy to get into the Grand Finals. With so many storylines involved, this was surely going to be a grand final to remember. NRG took 2 wins of their own to kick things off. Rogue then replied with 3 consecutive wins, leaving them at bracket reset point. NRG held their ground and won one more, but unfortunately it was not enough. Rogue took the final point and grabbed a bracket reset in the grand final.

Rogue carried the momentum onto the next stage of the best of 7, and won the initial match. NRG however, were determined to get back into the finals and won 2-1 in OT in the 2nd game. Rogue fired back with a dominating 4-1 scoreline in the 3rd game to get into the lead. This is where NRG packed up the defense in a stronger manner and held 3 solid performances to win the series and the Finals. Here are the final moments of the last match:
