China’s LPL schedule, and stream set to continue week 2 on the 9th of March

In order for China’s LPL schedule to pick up speed with other leagues, LPL has decided that it would be best if it runs seven days a week from the 9th of March, up to the 19th of April. Week 2 will continue with 3 Best of 3 matches per day apart from Tuesday, as on that day there will be only 2 matches.

LPL was originally postponed indefinitely back in January due to China being in the epicenter of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak. It has been confirmed from the World Health Organization that there have been 90,870 global cases, and 80,304 cases in China and 2946 of them have resulted in deaths.

Unfortunately, esports is not only suffering in China but also worldwide. A recent example of this is IEM Katowice, where the Silesian Governor did not allow any fans to enter the Spodek arena even though there were no confirmed cases of the virus in Poland.

MSI (Mid-Season Invitational) the first international tournament of the year is just around the corner and the biggest worry for all teams in the LPL is that valuable practice time has been lost because of the coronavirus situation and the likelihood of this affecting them during the event is great. FunPlusPhoenix, 2019’s reigning champions will definitely be receiving a hard hit. I personally hope that they manage to recover all the lost time and practices just in time for MSI as it would be a shame if they have a disappointing performance because of this unfortunate situation.

The LPL will run online play “until [the league] can safely resume using the esport venues.” Players will also have to play matches from their team’s headquarters with on-site referees in attendance unless they are currently in a quarantined province and unable to leave.

The Matches will start on the 9th of March whereas the English broadcast will resume on March 15th. Following the LPL schedule, it will be streamed on Twitch and on Youtube
