Envy win RLCS X Winter Split – How did they do it?

For this event, Team Envy were already auto-qualified through to the 2nd round of the bracket. Here they faced off BoSF esports, which was no obstacle as Envy dominated the series 3-0. Next came the Pittsburgh Knights in the Quarterfinals, and despite PK winning the first game, Envy bounced back winning the other 3 matches.

This win here got them versus Ghost Gaming in a best of 7 at the Semifinals. Both teams played extremely well, and ended up trading games, but eventually, team Envy came out on top, winning the series 4-3. Next up in the Winners Finals was Rogue, with their recent roster change made to swap out Kronovi for Taroco. The team was certainly getting better results, but unfortunately, it was the end for them when they met Envy. The best of 7 series was easily won by Envy, concluding the match with a 4-0 score line. The win here confirmed their slot in the Grand Finals versus NRG.

Grand Final

At the start of the event, NRG lost their round 2 game versus Ghost, and this meant that NRG had to go through an entire losers bracket run to get into the Grand Finals. Team Envy kicked off the Grand Finals with an easy 2 wins at the start. Then NRG answered back with a win of their own, and closely after lost their next match to give Envy series-point.

NRG grouped up and had exceptional teamwork to gain back some goals, and this helped them win the next 2 matches to tie the series. In the final game, NRG started out strong, getting an early 2-0 lead; however this was not enough as Atomic and Mist answered back with 2 goals for Envy. Shortly after, NRG regained control of the ball and passed it onto Justin to flip reset and roll the ball into the goal for a 1-goal lead.ย

A few moments after the 6th kickoff, Atomic took the ball for himself and scored another for Envy to tie the series. This led to the final match in the best of 7 to go to a fifth consecutive overtime. During the overtime, the ball went back and forth, but ultimately Turbopolsa concluded the match with a goal for Envy to win the RLCS X Winter Split.

Whatโ€™s next?

With Envyโ€™s acquisition of Turbopolsa, weโ€™re seeing time and time again that they are the best in North America. Despite their recent achievements, they are aware that teams like NRG and Ghost are also at a very high level, which is why Envy needs to keep their performance up until the next event!
