Big news on the media side of esports. Indeed, ESL and G4 media has signed an exclusive media deal. Accordingly, you can read on to learn the implications of this exclusive media deal in the short article below.
ESL and G4 Media – Live on Comcast NGC Universal
The first question to ask in this piece of news is obvious – who is G4 Media? Accordingly, G4 represents a gaming TV network which has been established for a while, just not very active. Picking up the reigns now and going live on Comcast NBC Universal later on this year. Turning to ESL, it seems a deal has been agreed upon and publically announced.
The deal is supposedly an exclusive media rights deal. In short, this means that for the first time ever, ESL events will be available on television networks in North America for the first time ever! However, besides events themselves, G4 now have the right to produce any related media in relation to such events. This includes behind the scenes, highlights and interviews to mention a few.
The following are a few words from Frank Uddo, the Senior Vice President of Media Rights over at ESL Gaming:
“We have hosted many successful events in North America already, and with this exciting partnership we will finally be able to provide all US and Canadian esports fans with access to ESL events via linear TV broadcasts as well.”
Frank Uddo – Senior Vice President of Media Rights ESL Gaming
As you can tell, this news is strictly related to North American TV networks.
Perhaps, later down the line this could expand to the global structure. Otherwise, this is a huge step to really pushing esports to the forefront of media.
