We’re 2 days into the VCT 2021 EU Stage 3 Challengers 1 and we’ve already had plenty of teams getting eliminated. Latest in the elimination row were Europe’s representative teams during Masters Reykjavik, Fnatic and Team Liquid. Here’s how it all went down:
Team Liquid‘s journey at VCT 2021 EU Stage 3 Challengers 1
Team Liquid kicked off the tournament with an upsetting loss against Fnatic in the Quarterfinals. They lost 2-1 to them and were dropped down to the lower bracket against Team BDS. Here Team Liquid performed as expected and won the best of 3 to get into the second round of the lower bracket. Unfortunately here they had to take on the dominant FunPlus Phoenix squad led by ANGE1. Both maps were quite close, but in the end FPX were better, and they move on to the 3rd round of the lower bracket
Fnatic‘s elimination
Oppositely, Fnatic started the tournament in strong fashion, defeating their main rivals, Team Liquid. From there they were tasked to battle Guild Esports, and despite a heroic effort, Guild were still the winners of that series. This dropped Fnatic to the lower bracket against the newly formed G2 Esports. G2 played extremely well on the first map (Icebox) and won it to get the advantage in the series. The second map went the distance, and it was G2 which again grabbed the win, 17-15.
And just like that, 2 of Europe’s strongest teams, eliminated from Stage 3 Challengers 1. This event is already shaping up some interesting story lines. In fact, Acend eye themselves another title under their belt considering they slotted themselves in the Grand Finals.
