G2 Ocelote on Perkz not going to Fnatic – Why is this big news?
Earlier in the transfer week we heard rumours of G2 esports and Perkz parting ways for the 2021 season. Some of the rumours hinted at Cloud9 and Fnatic both being interested in the ADC/Mid laner, but in the end we saw Perkz moving to North America and landing with Cloud9.
In the past 4 seasons of European League of Legends, Fnatic and G2 have always been at the top. The main reason for this was because of the players they had. Some of the core players that both organizations had were: Caps and Rekkles for Fnatic, and Jankos alongside Perkz on G2 esports. With former and recent changes included, both Caps and Rekkles are now representing G2. Which meant that the players which excelled in Fnatic, eventually moved on to play for the other reigning team.
What is so contradictory about this?
Perkz transferring to Fnatic would have created a challenging situation for G2 esports. Mainly because the level of the LEC would have increased overall, and G2’s winnings in both Spring and Summer splits would be doubted. With Perkz going over to the LCS this obstacle will be eliminated and G2 can continue to dominate Europe.
What’s next for G2?
Was it an egoistic move? Maybe, but the point still stands. G2 wants to keep winning championships, and they don’t want anyone in their way stopping that from happening.
