Gambit Esports have announced that they opted to close out their League of Legends division. Here is their announcement:
Gambit Esports close League of Legends division – Why?
In the announcement they do not state the exact reason for their departure from the esport and we must look onto their recent results in the LCL. The team has constantly been placing 3rd/4th in the past 3 years of competition and only managed to get 2 second places. The lack of championships and investment in other esports could be the reason why they have made this decision.
With their farewell message, the Gambit staff say one final thank you to all of the players that represented their team within League of Legends.
Here are the team’s best achievements in the esport:
- 5th-8th in Season 3 World Championship – 23rd September 2013 – $75,000
- 1st in LCL Spring 2018 – 1st April 2018 – $37,021
- 7th-8th at Mid-Season Invitational 2018 – 9th May 2018 – $34,263
Community Reaction
The Gambit Esports organisation has had a long history (8 years) with League of Legends. Originally, they started off with the Moscow 5 roster, consisting of Darien, Alex_Ich, Genja, Edward and DiamondProx. Back then, the team had excellent results, and was known to be the best CIS team in the world.
Obviously with seeing such a legendary org step away from the scene, the community felt a huge sadness. As fans of Gambit, we can only hope that one day they grow big enough to re-enter the scene.
With this change, Gambit Esports are parting ways with:
Players:
- Mark “DREAMPYLLA” Leksin
- Stanimir “Four” Penchev
- Alexey “Phlaty” Lemeshchuk
- Artyom “Shiganari” Pervushin
- Alexander “Lekcycc” Lexikov
Coaches:
- Yevgeny “SadJesteRRR” Starosvetskiy
- Aleksandr “PvPStejos” Glazkov
Analyst:
- Evgeny “Seigimitsu” Podlobnikov
