For a few esports, it’s soon that time of year when the post-season events decide international champions. Accordingly, this is true for Arena of Valor. Indeed, as one of the top mobile esports in the world, the Arena of Valor International Championship 2022 is right around the corner – read on to learn more below!
Event Background

This year for AoV, things are ramping up. Indeed, after last year, the prize pool has doubled to now one of $2,000,000. Another change from last year, is that this event is no longer the world championship. Instead, bearing in mind that AoV and HoK are merging, this will be the penultimate event – the last chance to compete for the Honor of Kings World Champion Cup!
Regardless, there’s a huge amount at stake.
Competing for this prize pool are some of the top teams in the world. Specifically, 15 of the best teams in the world will be heading to the offline venue, while others compete remotely. Here they are listed below:
- Saigon Phantom
- Bacon TIme
- Bikertopia Esports
- Dewa United
- V Gaming
- Talon Esports
- ONE Team
- Starry Hope
- Team Flash
- Valencia CF Esports
- MAD Team
- INFLUENCE RAGE
- Nova Esports
- Kaos Next Ruya
- A Dope Team
Originally 16 teams, recently YaLLa Esports were disqualified from the competition and no representative from the Arabia Cup will be present.
Format
In terms of format, we have a few stages to look forward to.
Indeed, as you can expect at this level of competition, we’ll be starting with a typical Group Stage. Taking place from 16th June to 19th June, the 15 teams have been split into three groups of 4 and one last group of three.
Here they are listed below:
- A: Nova Esports, Starry Hope, Talon Esports, Team Flash
- B: ONE Team, Saigon Phantom, Valencia CF eSports, YaLLa Esports
- C: A Dope Team, Bikertopia Esports, Dewa United, INFLUENCE RAGE
- D: Bacon Time, MAD Team, Next Ruya, V Gaming
However, there will be two Phases to this Group Stage.
In Phase 1, a single round robin means that within each group each team plays one another once in a BO1 match. From each group, only the top three will progress to Phase 2.
With Phase 2 kicking off on June 18th, competition ramps up in another single round robin within the groups of 3 which progressed. Accordingly, matches will be BO2 with the following points scheme:
- Winning 2-0 = 3 points
- Drawing 1-1 = 1 points
- Losing 2-0 = 0 points
From here, the top two teams advance to the Knockout Stage while one team is eliminated.
Moreover, the Knockout Stage will take place from June 23rd to July 10th. Here, a double elimination bracket will take place. Overall, Knockout Stage Round 1 will be BO5 while other matches will be BO7.
At the end of it, a winner will be revealed – the favourite for the upcoming Honor of Kings World Champion Cup 2022!
