As one of the oldest esports in the industry, CS:GO still celebrates a special passion for open, lower stakes, open events. Accordingly, Fragadelphia 17 follows a long lineage of events and kicks off within the week. Read on to learn How to Watch this exciting event below!

Organized by the likes of Nerd Street Games, Fragadelphia is a North American LAN and online tournament organizer. Also hosting the ESEA Cash Cup events, the organizers have held events like this since 2014.

This time around, it’s no different. Inviting the top 24 teams from the open bracket in North America, $100,000 will be up for grabs as teams compete offline at The Block venue in Philadelphia.

Taking place from 9th September to 11th September, the event looks to fill up the weekend.

Usually, here we take the opportunity to list down the competitors taking part. However, the full list of competitors will only be known a day before the competition as qualifiers are yet to be played.

As of right now, here are the teams we know will be attending:

  • timbermen
  • Squirtle Squad
  • ATK
  • Electrify Steel
  • Vendetta
  • Davenport University
  • Argon Esports
  • Phantom Troupe
  • Last Chance Qualifier (TBD x 8)

Read on as we dive a little deeper to understand exactly how this event will take place!

Format

Considering the legacy of the organizers, the format won’t be changing much. Unlike, last season’s event, Fragadelphia 16, the format will involve two stages.

Specifically, first we’ll have a Group Stage. Here, four double elimination format GSL groups will determine the top half of the competition. Notably, there will be four groups of four. From these groups of four, only the top 2 will progress. With BO3 matches, only 8 teams will proceed to the final stage.

The groups are yet to be revealed considering a number of teams are yet to qualify.

Finally, the competition will boil down to a Single Elimination Playoffs bracket, where matches are BO3. Teams having one life each will try fight to the end of the bracket and be crowned winners of Fragadelphia 17.

We highly recommend staying up to date via the Fragadelphia Twitter page viewable here.

Predictions

With regards to predictions, naturally we’ll be taking a look at the standings from the previous event – Fragadelphia 16. Here is how the scene ranked in March this year:

  • #1 – Strife Esports
  • #2 – Apeks Rebel
  • #3-4 – Team oNe eSports, ATK

Yet, considering the open nature of the event, it’s anyone’s ball-game! Indeed, that’s what makes Fragadelphia so exciting! In the end, regardless of winner, it’s great to see the legacy of collegiate and lower tier competition carry on in 2022 with offline events.
