It’s all happening at once – multiple regions are gearing up for competitive League of Legends as we get on track for the 2022 season! Indeed, in this episode of How to Watch, we’ll be lasering our focus on the upcoming LCK Spring Split 2022 regional. Read on as we fill you in on all the viewership details!
Event Background
Heading into this season, 2022 sees the second season since the LCK entered a franchised model like most other regions. Yielding a tonne of success due to its popularity and high level of competition, 2022 looks to be bigger than ever.
Indeed, with DWG KIA failing to take Worlds 2021 last year, the LCK region is coming with a vengeance. Starting as soon as 12th January, running all the way to March 20th, 10 franchised teams will be competing once again:
- DRX
- DWG KIA
- Fredit BRION
- Gen.G
- Hanwha Life
- KT Rolster
- Kwangdong Freecs (renamed from Afreeca Freecs)
- Liiv SANDBOX
- NS RedForce
- T1
Indeed, apart from prize, teams are competing likely for seeds to the Playoffs stage and subsequent international events, though this is yet to be confirmed.
Format
Speaking of which, with less than a week left, Riot Games is yet to officialise the format. However, we’re confident that they’ll be following last year’s format.
Specifically, this will involve all 10 teams competing in a Double Round Robin. This means that each team plays against one another twice in total, in best of three matches.
Furthermore, once that’s over, the top 6 teams will be qualified for the separate Spring Playoffs event to take place later on.

Predictions
It’s been a while since we’ve witnessed the LCK go at it, and accordingly, roster changes play a role in the difficulty involved when making accurate predictions.
Anyways, the last time the franchise went at it was back in the LCK Summer 2021 event. Here, the following standings were observed:
- #1 – DWG KIA
- #2 – Gen.G
- #3 – Nongshim RedForce
- #4 – T1
- #5 – Liiv SANDBOX
- #6 – Afreeca Freecs (now renamed)
These results together with their second place at Worlds 2021 places DWG KIA at the top. Beneath them, we’d like to favour Gen.G also, though it’s clear that DWG KIA need to prove that they’re still contenders for both regional and international dominance.
We can’t wait to see one of League of Legends’ most popular regions once again!
