In terms of background, the MSI event takes place every year. Following the first split of competitive LoL in each region, the best of the best are seeded to compete for global dominance at the half-way mark.

Apart from the prize, MSI 2022 is an opportunity for teams to compete internationally – only here and Worlds does this actually happen.

Taking place in mix of offline and online environments, the event will run from 10th May all the way to 29th May.

Representing many regions, take a look at the contestants below:

  • Royal Never Give Up – China
  • T1 – Korea
  • G2 Esports – Europe
  • North America – Evil Geniuses
  • PSG Talon – Pacific
  • Saigon Buffalo – Vietnam
  • Istanbul Wildcats – Turkey
  • Team Aze – Latin America
  • RED Canids – Brazil
  • DetonatioN FM – Japan
  • ORDER – Oceania

Note that for certain reasons, no LCL teams will be representing at this international event.

So, how will the 11 teams compete to try and win? Accordingly, there are three stages of the competition.

Starting with Stage 1, a Group Stage will kick things off. Here, teams have been drawn into three groups. Spread into the following three groups:

  • A – DetionatioN FocusMe, Saigon Buffalo, T1, Team Aze
  • B – Istanbul Wildcats, PSG Talon, RED Canids, Royal Never Give Up
  • C – Evil Geniuses, G2 Esports, ORDER

For Groups A and B, a double round robin will take place, while Group C will feature a quadruple round robin. All matches will be BO1 and the top two teams from each group will move on to Stage 2.

The top 6 teams will make it to Stage 2 – Rumble. Here, all teams will be seeded into a single double round robin. Once again matches are BO1, and the top 4 teams advance to Stage 3 (Knockout).

It’s in this final stage where we’ll enjoy a final singel elimination bracket. Each match will be BO5 – at the end of it, we’ll have another international champion!
