How to Watch MSI 2021 LoL Invitational: teams, format, schedule, streams, predictions

Indeed, competitive League of Legends has entertained us these past few months thanks to the Spring events. Accordingly, the best of the best have qualified for an incredible event – the MSI 2021 LoL Invitational is almost here! Kicking off on 6th May, read on to learn everything you need to know to watch!

Event Background

As I’ll reiterate, the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) is a celebration of international League of Legends. Winners from regional spring splits are invited – this time to Iceland – to prove themselves on an international stage. With this incredible amount of glory and pride on the line, the prize pool of $250,000 will also be crowd funded through in-game purchases.

However, there’s an additional twist to this event. Riot Games is making things spicy as Worlds 2021 pools will be changed – the winning region will earn an extra seed and meanwhile, the overall top ranking region will earn another seed! If these two coincide, the second ranked region will earn this extra seed!

Accordingly, here are the 11 teams that will be coming to fight for all this:

  • LCS Spring – Cloud9
  • LCK Spring – DAMWON Gaming
  • LJL Spring – DetonatioN FocusMe
  • LLA Opening – Infinity Esports
  • TCL Winter – Istanbul Wild Cats
  • LEC Spring – MAD Lions
  • CBLOL Split 1 – paiN Gaming
  • LCO Split 1 – Pentanet.GG
  • PCS Spring – PSG Talon
  • LPL Spring – Royal Never Give Up
  • LCL Spring – Unicorns of Love

11? Unfortunately, the winning team from Vietnam, GAM Esports, couldn’t make it due to flight restrictions.

Format

Despite the missing team, the format will not be changing much. Speaking of which, it’s a very exciting three stage movement.

  • Group Stage – 3 groups of 4 (1 group of 3) – top two progress to the next stage after a double round-robin. Furthermore, the bottom two are eliminated from the competition after BO1 matches.
  • Rumble Stage – the top 6 play through a Double Round Robin. Once again, with BO1 games, the top 4 move on to Knockout Stage while the bottom two are eliminated.
  • Knockout Stage – the final four convene for an epic single-elimination bracket with BO5 matches.

Everything will kick off on 6th May, running up to the 23rd May.

Kicking things off, here’s how the groups are looking for the event:

  • Group A: Royal Never Give Up, Unicorns of Love, Pentanet.GG
  • Group B: MAD Lions, PSG Talon, Istanbul Wildcats, paiN Gaming
  • Group C: DAMWON Gaming, Cloud9, Infinity Esports, DetonatioN FocusMe

Predictions

Last year, the MSI 2020 Invitational couldn’t happen and was suddenly cancelled – that isn’t happening this year. That’s why we’re so excited for this event, the last time since Worlds since we’ve been able to enjoy some epic international competition.

So who’s more likely to win?

Bearing this in mind, I’ll be power-ranking the regions I believe have the best chance of winning, as we’ll show below:

  1. LCK – DAMWON Gaming
  2. LPL – Royal Never Give Up
  3. LEC – MAD Lions
  4. LCS – Cloud9
  5. PCS – PSG Talon
  6. LCL – Unicorns of Love
  7. TCL Winter – Istanbul Wild Cats
  8. LLA Opening – Infinity Esports
  9. CBLOL Split 1 – paiN Gaming
  10. LJL Spring – DetonatioN FocusMe
  11. LCO Split 1 – Pentanet.GG

I believe that’s quite an agreeable ranking. At the top, it’s without question that DAMWON Gaming is the leading favourite heading into this event, with RNGU and MAD Lions taking up the next spots.

However, international competition is always fascinating as anything can happen in such match-ups.
