Tournament Background

Peacekeeper Elite League 2020 is the highest level of professional Chinese esports in the game PUBG Mobile. The previous PEL took place on the 6th of December 2019. During this event, we saw 4AM (Four Angry Men) taking the win with a total score of 345 points.

Context

Tomorrow, the Peacekeeper Elite League (more commonly known as PEL) Season 1 2020 will be kicking off. This will be the first-ever professional PUBG Mobile league for China. In order to have a successful event, PEL has made some alterations to the system for the new season. They have decided that the event should be fully played online due to health and safety precautions. However even though it will be played online, PEL 2020 s1 has set a series of rules for maintaining the fairness of online competition.

In this new Season, PEL have decided that in Season 1, there will be three different stages. Pre-Season, Regular and Finals. The Pre-Season will show who the heavy hitters are for the event, and they will be given a spot to the finals directly if they reach a top 5 position. The Regular stage will be balancing out the teams by allowing only the top 10 out of 15 teams to pass to the Finals, and of course the finals will be the last stage for the event. Each team must do their utmost as many are saying that PEL’s success could result in a lot of possibilities for the Battle Royale scene in China.

The Chinese esports community is mostly attracted to League of Legends and Dota 2, although an interesting fact is that the sales of mobile games have exceeded the sales of PC games. PUBG Mobile is one of the most popular games in China and it is quite exciting to see if this could be a start to a whole new chapter of Mobile esports.

Predictions

Coming into Peacekeeper Elite League Season 1, Apart of 4AM and XQF, the two big contenders for the first place, it is expected that the top teams of each group for the event are LGD in group A, Royal Never Give Up in group B, AHQ esports in group C and FunPlus Phoenix in group D. Also, you should keep an on TOP Esports (they were winners of the inaugural edition of the PUBG Mobile Club Open )Even though the event will be played online, it shouldn’t really impact the tournament in a strong manner, And as mentioned above, this could potentially be the start to a whole new chapter of mobile esports in China. All in all, we will have to wait and see until tomorrow for the start of the event at 17:00 as stated on the official Peacekeeper Elite League website which can be found here: https://gp.qq.com/main.shtml
