A few weeks ago, we covered the Challengers 1 event. At this first leg, 8 teams competed, from which 4 earned direct seeds to the Challenger Playoffs. Otherwise, the remaining four are back at it again this event to fight for the four remaining Challengers Playoffs event for the North American region.

Bearing this in mind, a total of 8 teams will be attending this qualifier event. Besides the 4 teams from Challengers 1, there are four more teams entering from the Open Qualifier event which is ongoing.

Indeed, concluding on the 25th July, we’ll add these teams to this article in due time. For now, we can confirm the following teams attending the event:

  • Pioneers
  • Gen.G Esports
  • Version1
  • Rise
  • FaZe Clan
  • TSM
  • T1
  • Luminosity Gaming

All in all, this $50,000 is the last chance for teams to earn a spot in the Challengers Playoffs, where they can perhaps make it to Masters Berlin. Running from 29th July to 1st August, this event looks to be pretty intense.

Format

In terms of format, it’s a very simple format which is exactly similar to the Challengers 1 event. For those unaware, it will go as follows:

  • A Double Elimination Bracket – this means there will be a Winners and Losers side to the bracket. Here, all teams wil start on the Winners side, and a loss results in demotion to the Losers side. However, a loss on trhe Losers side results in elimination from the tournament.
  • All matches will be BO3 (best of three)
  • The Grand Final will be BO5 (best of five)

It seems to be that the seeds for the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals (first round of matches) look to be randomised and determined in the near future. Otherwise, we can’t wait to see how it all kicks off!

We’ll start by tackling the teams hailing from the Challengers 1 event. Accordingly, from the four teams, there are definitely two levels of competency. Indeed, it’s clear that Gen.G and Pioneers are a tier above Version1 and Rise based solely on the placing at that event.

With regards to the open bracket teams, based on the format to make it to this stage, it’s quite unclear as to who stands on top once the teams go head to head. Of note, FaZe, Luminosity and T1 breezed through flawlessly without losing a map.
