While the majority of StarCraft II events involve individuals competing, the World Team League 2022 Winter is an example of a difference. Accordingly, team-based competition in StarCraft II holds a special place in the community’s heart. Read on to learn how to watch this exciting event below!
Event Background
Organized by SCBoy, the World Team League has been hosting events of this sort for a while. Taking place online, the event looks to kick off on 12th September.
Accordingly, the premier event will feature the top 12 organizations fielding multiple players. Take a look at the competing teams below:
- Alpha X
- Dragon Phoenix Gaming
- Freecs
- Good Game Gaming
- KaiZi Gaming
- PSISTORM Gaming
- Shopify Rebellion
- Team GP
- Team Liquid
- TBD x 3 (Code A Teams)
So far, no seeds have been announced yet for winners. Otherwise, we can expect a prize pool to help push the competition further.
Format
Concerning the format, StarCraft II events are known to have a complicated and lengthy format.
Firstly, we’ll have a Group Stage featuring a proleague format. For those unaware, this features the announcement of the map lineup to teams who then pick players.
Then, teams announce their player lineup – maps and players are predefined for all games. Each match involves 7 rounds, first team with 4 wins is the winner of the match.
Bearing that in mind, the Group Stage will feature 3 sets of BO2 where BO1 ace matches are played if needed. Overall, a points distribution has been revealed:
- Regular Win – 3 points
- Ace Win – 2 points
- Ace Loss – 1 points
Out of the teams, only the top 7 will advance to the playoffs. Accordingly, here a King of the Hill Bracket will take place, with one map ban for each team.
Notably, an All-Kill Format means that teams will fight through 4 sets of BO2 and only player winning both games stays.
Should all players be eliminated after 3 sets, one player will need to return for the fourth set. Naturally, once all 4 players are eliminated for a team, the team loses that match.

- #1 – Dragon Phoenix Gaming
- #2 – Team NV
- #3 – KaiZi Gaming
- #4 – Alpha X

As you can see, Dragon Phoenix Gaming is favoured as they’ll likely be fielding another star-studded roster to contend with the best.
