Ubisoft just let out a massive new update with regards to competitive Rainbow Six Siege. All-in-all, this piece of news can be seen both negatively and positively. Indeed, it’s official that the North American League 2021 will now be merging with the Canadian League!
Earlier last year, Ubisoft announced the two separate leagues, as divisions. In a recent announcement for 2021, they are now one. Indeed, a unified North American Division is in the works. Here’s what Ubisoft had to comment:
We believe that this unification is in the best interest of growing the Canada and US Rainbow Six communities and will provide an interesting competitive element in 2021 as we continue to improve our league.
Ubisoft
Such a merge is taking place at all tiers, including the Challenger League. Eveything will soon be explained ahead of the 2021 season of the North American League 2021.
Why is the North American League 2021 merging?
In their announcement, Ubisoft fails to mention the reason behind the merging. That’s definitely a little suspicious. What might be the case is that individually, especially the Canadian league, viewership or support was poor. By merging the leagues, there’s less hassle for Ubisoft to organize two separate leagues too. Probably, Ubisoft bit off more than they could chew, or the online situation has made coordinating more than necessary impossible.
On the other hand, this could lead to better competition and new blood for the NA league.
Regardless, we’re hopeful.
