Some sullen news has just impacted the Overwatch community. Indeed, since last year, the community has been awaiting further updates. Accordingly, news was spilled at BlizzConline a few days ago. Sadly, Overwatch 2 is not on the horizon for 2021!
Overwatch 2 – A Saddened Community
This is definitely sad news for the community. After months of waiting together with a trailer, the hype is crashing. Such an announcement is based on an observation made by Geoff Keighley, a gaming journalist, on twitter:
Previously, the title was planned for a Summer release in 2021.
Serious Implications for Esports
Why is this such a big deal you ask?
Well, the current title of Overwatch hasn’t received a major update since last April – almost a year! Supposedly, the community was told that attention was being given to developing the sequel. Furthermore, since competitive Overwatch is currently struggling, many looked to the sequel with hope.
Now with the delay, the community is shaking their heads. Indeed, the question goes ‘now what?’
Unfortunately, Blizzard cannot be blamed for the difficulties the world is facing right now. Remotely developing a game is a lot harder than it sounds.
However, they’ll need to work to rekindle Overwatch with new content.
