The Vancouver Titans’ disband is yet again another case of the current pandemic affecting esports. In a statement released yesterday, 6th of May, The Vancouver Titans have cut all ties with their Overwatch League team and staff. Here below is the full list of all players & staff that have since agreed to mutually part ways after Vancouver Titans disbands:
- HyoJong “HakSal” Kim
- Minsoo “Seominsoo” Seo
- Seongjun “Slime” Kim
- Chunghee “Stitch” Lee
- Juseok “Twilight” Lee
- JeHong “RyuJeHong” Yu
- Yangwon “Yang1” Kweon (coach)
- Jae Hong “Andante” Hwang (coach)
- The team has also released Chan Hyeong “Fissure” Baek.
The team had a really good start to the 3rd season of OWL, with two very impressive wins. However with the health situation getting worse at a rapid rate, the players were bound to their training facility at home. The Vancouver Titans then realised that this was going to be an extended situation, the players were then flown back to their homes in South Korea so that they can be with their families.
Vancouver Titans had planned out for the team to join the Asian division and they would continue to play the new schedule from their own homes. But this quickly arose new issues and challenges. The organization was unable to meet the players expectations in Korea, and after a lot of thought and speculation, they felt that it would be best to mutually part ways.
This is very unfortunate news as at the start of this OWL season, the team was at an all-time high in terms of motivation, to avenge their loss in the Grand Finals of the Season 2 Overwatch League to their rivals, San Francisco Shock.
With regards as to what’s next for the Vancouver Titans, it is likely that they will proceed to sign a fresh North-American roster, with hints pointing at the team “Second Wind” as their primary choice. Their main goal is to bounce back into the league, and try to regain their spot in the 3rd season of OWL.
