With hopes high for the PMGC 2021 Grand Finals which kick off today, some news has made the headlines. Accordingly, due to unforeseen circumstances, the event is no longer ‘offline’ at one venue. Instead, the event is moving to a Semi-LAN/Online event which is a change – read on as we discuss the change below!
PMGC 2021 Grand Finals – Not Every Team Could Make It
Indeed, there are a tonne of things to consider here. So much so, that the Tencent direct or esports James Yang made this clear in a press conference.
To paraphrase, due to health concerns and the vast number of players flying in from a number of countries, meeting in one venue became possible due to some complications. Considering this change, only a handful of teams have flown out to the venues in Singapore and Dubai.
Meanwhile, other teams will be competing remotely and connecting online.
The community is definitely disappointed, especially since last year’s event has hosted with all teams at one venue. Furthermore, how will Tencent guarantee competitive integrity if not all the teams are present physically?
