This weekend we saw RNG (Royal Never Give Up) get crowned as champions of the LPL 2021 Spring Split. Here is how it all went down:
RNG Crowned Champions of LPL 2021 Spring Split – How did they do it?
Group Stage
Looking onto the group stage, RNG were the most dominant team out of all 17 teams. During these 10 weeks, Royal Never Give Up won 14 matches, and only lost 2 matches against Bilibili Gaming and JD Gaming. They finished first in the regular season, just above EDward Gaming.
Playoffs
Due to their result in the group stage, RNG had a huge advantage in the bracket. This is because they were placed in the first round of the upper bracket. Unfortunately they lost their first matchup against 2019 World Champions FPX, and dropped into the losers bracket. Here they played versus Top Esports, and after a grueling series, RNG came out on top, winning 3-2. Next up was EDG, after losing to FPX they also dropped to the lower bracket. RNG won the first 2 games, EDG replied with 2 of their own, and in the final match, RNG closed it out with intense teamwork during team fights.
Grand Finals
This win placed them into the Grand Finals where they rematched the team that brought them down in the first place. FPX opened up the finals with a huge game in their favour, grabbing the edge in their series. RNG motivated themselves with this first loss and went through with winning the next 3 matches of the series. GALA was key for these victories, as he helped RNG gain the advantage almost immediately in every game.
