As you may know, Rocket League has just had its 5-year anniversary earlier in July. Rocket league has been a mid-to-top tier esport for a very long time, and it was made aware that sooner or later it would follow other esports in becoming a F2P (Free to play) game. Here is their statement:
If you have bought rocket league before it goes Free to play, you are not getting left out. All users before the launch of free to play will be rewarded with Legacy status and receiving the following items and cosmetics:
- All Rocket League-branded DLC released before free to play
- “Est. 20XX” title that displays the first year you played Rocket League
- 200+ Common items upgraded to “Legacy” quality
- Golden Cosmos Boost
- Dieci-Oro Wheels
- Huntress Player Banner
In addition to this, if a player has played online before the announcement, they will be receiving the Faded Cosmos Boost. Here’s an image of it below:
What will Rocket League F2P mean for esports?
Going free to play will certainly benefit the esports scene, and increase the game’s popularity. The player numbers for Rocket League will be increased by a large number, and most are speculating it might be more than Rocket League can handle. We’ll just have to wait and see until the launch of the game going free, later this Summer 2020.
