This past weekend we saw the North American squad of Sentinels win the VCT NA Stage 3 Challengers 1. Here’s how it all went down:
Sentinels win VCT NA Stage 3 Challengers 1 – How did they do it?
The Sentinels started the tournament with a big 2-1 win against Gen.G Esports. This placed them directly into the upper bracket semi finals against XSET. To everyone’s surprise, after a very back and forth series, XSET won the best of 3 with a 2-1 scoreline. This meant that Sentinels had to grind their way back up through the lower bracket. And that’s exactly what they did.
Lower-Bracket Run
First came the Pioneers, an easy 2-0 for SEN, then there was the Team Envy lineup, which was also not a huge obstacle for the Stage 2 Masters Champs. Their final test before the grand finals was against 100 Thieves. The first map (Haven) went the distance, but ultimately it was Sentinels that took the win (15-13). The next map, Sentinels showed a brilliant performance on the recently released map, Breeze. With this latest win, they got their spot into the Grand Final.
Grand Final
Funnily enough, it was XSET against the Sentinels in the Grand Finals. The first map went in the way of XSET, but what followed was a set of dominant performances by Sentinels. They won Breeze 13-7, Icebox 14-12, and Ascent 13-10 to be crowned North American champions and achieve that #1 Challengers Playoffs seed.
