Many esports scenes like to use the calendar year as a model for the competitive year. However, this isn’t the case for StarCraft II. Indeed, although it’s December, the season is only warming up – regardless, read on to learn what you need to know about StarCraft II 2023 Esports Road Map!
StarCraft II 2023 Esports Road Map – Mid-Season
So, for those unaware, the highest level of competitive StarCraft II is managed by the ESL Pro Tour. Indeed, every year, the season kicks off after the post-season event of the year in February – IEM Katowice.
As a framework, it allows the very best SCII players in the world to compete in an environment where they earn standardized points at each event to determine qualification and seeding for the next.
Accordingly, the remainder of the current season will be concluded in the coming year as follows:
- Major – January 3rd – WTL 2023 Winter 2v2 Tour
- Premier – February 8th – IEM Katowice 2023
Ever year, IEM Katowice crowns an international winner for the season, with the biggest prize pool of the year on the line.
Anyways, although we don’t have the official details for the upcoming season, it’s safe to say that the ESL Pro Tour will be back with the following organizers:
- DreamHack hosting DreamHack Masters Events
- GSL hosting GSL Events
- ESL hosting IEM Katowice
This past year saw a much-needed return to offline events for the esport, with a great response for the community. Naturally, our wishlist for the 2023 season is as follows:
- More frequent Major international events
- A form of international league perhaps instead of the isolated tournament events
- More involvement of other regions outside of Europe, North America and South Korea
- Hosting unique events
With regards to the last statement, IEM Katowice is organized in tandem with CS:GO and World of Warcraft. Indeed, SCII having its very own unique venues would definitely be an upgrade!
