This is certainly not the first time that the words ‘cheaters’ and ‘Warzone’ are being combined. Indeed, an ongoing problem which is constantly fluctuating is becoming more and more problematic. In this episode of State of the Community, we’ll be diving into how may be affecting the competitive side of things with Warzone Esports!
Social Media Personalities Strike Out – For Good?
This featured article is behind an incredible wave of responses from the YouTube community. Indeed, many popular content creators are taking a step away from the title. For example, take the following video from Jack “CouRage” Dunlop as an example:
And no, he’s not alone. Other content creators such as Nick “NickMercs” Kolcheff are also taking a step back and this looks to be the trend. Among a few reasons, such as a lack of streamer support, the current plaque of cheaters and hackers have pushed many over the edge to venture out to other titles such as Apex Legends.
This lack of patience is definitely justified following the turbulence of allowing cross-play and the lack of support from Activision-Blizzard.
With the cause out of the way, let’s jump into the possible effect.
Warzone Esports And Cheaters – Reducing Popularity, Reducing Attention
In terms of warzone esports, there isn’t any official framework right now. However, Activision is instead hosting events such as the World Series of Warzone a few months ago which were incredible successes in their own right.
However, there are a few ways in which cheaters can potentially effect the future of warzone esports:
- Reason #1 – a lack of ranked play forces competitors and others into public matches as their main form of practice. Bearing this in mind, cheaters make practice harder and less attractive. As a result, this pulls away competitors from investing their time.
- Reason #2 – taking a hit on streamers also reduces the attention the title gets on platforms such as Twitch. Accordingly, for the past few months Warzone has dominated streaming resulting in more people playing and accordingly, more people diving into the competitive side. However, if less people are playing, less people are interested in competitive experiences.
- Reason #3 – a lack of competitive integrity. Indeed, with a lack of anti-cheat software, the idea of cheaters can severely disrupt Warzone Esports events in the future, especially if they aren’t caught and dealt with immediately. Such cheating can make hosting competitive events simply impossible.
In addition, the fact that Activision are taking so long to respond does not help their case right now. However, there may also be more to it.
Activision Blizzard – Terrible Timing Right Now
Our concerns stem from the fact that earlier this year, Activision-Blizzard announced a big push towards esports for competitive Warzone thanks to the mentioned World of Warzone series. Offering a taste for the future, it got everybody excited.
Now, back on topic, Activision Blizzard are currently quite underfire in the esports industry. For those unaware, Activision Blizzard are currently struggling through an internal lawsuit involving harassment.
As a result of this, establishments such as the Overwatch League have lost massive sponsors and in addition, the company has simply been silent.
Bearing this in mind, the timing is very poor together with the outrage from the Warzone community. While we’re hopeful that everything can be patched up and the future of Warzone Esports brightened up, it will also likely take some time.
For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what’s next for Warzone Esports. Due to how early and young the title is with regards to esports, Activision Blizzard need to take care of it in order to grow.
