Absolutely heartbreaking news for the competitive Call of Duty community these past days as Activision has announced that the largest event in the history of the competitive franchise will be held online instead of the supposed LAN format. Read on to learn more about the $4.6 million event.
The entire community was hoping that this wouldn’t be the case, due to the unreliability of internet connections compared to LAN. Also, with the rumours of potential cheating in the Call of Duty League through controller modifications, many have grown concerned.
To counter this, a ‘universal camera setup’ looks to be implemented as of July 10th, for the New York Home Series, where officials will be able to confirm whether professionals are abusing any potential advantages with views on all gaming apparatus.
In addition, two more servers have been created to add up to 5, compared to the former 3, to allow for a more balanced connection for everybody. Besides this, a strong focus has been placed on fighting off all potential technical difficulties.
To take place sometime in August, teams finally know that they need to prepare for online and online only. No more ‘we’ll do better on LAN’ excuses will be heard anytime soon.
