There have been a few reports regarding the name of Valorant, the highest rank, not the game. It’s extremely easy to confuse and that is the main reason for the change.
Why is it so confusing?
When Riot Games released a statement regarding competitive play and the ranks, it raised a lot of questions as to why they thought, naming the highest rank in the game the same name as the name of the game would be a good idea. On paper, it makes sense due to Valorant being an extremely prestigious rank name, however as you might’ve noticed already, it raises a lot of confusion and is not healthy for the game.
Any idea of what they can change it to?
In Riot Games’ popular MOBA, League of Legends, the highest rank is named ‘Challenger’, so that will definitely be a name they will be considering if they don’t mind having the same rank names for the highest rank.
What are the community’s thoughts?
There are many that are voicing their opinion regarding the matter, and a couple of examples that were mentioned make sense. Some of the popular examples brought up that having the highest rank named Top 500, similar to Overwatch would be the best solution. Not only being a more fitting name, but also increases incentive for players that are in the Top 500 to reach a better rank and reach top 1 in their region.
Unfortunately enough, ranked play will not be available immediately on
launch, as Riot have stated that competitive matchmaking will resume after a
few weeks, once they confirm that the game and servers are running smoothly.
This means that they will have enough time to think of a new and more
appropriate name for the highest rank in the game.
