Recently, Riot Games have revealed further details concerning Worlds 2020. While the community is celebrating the fact that it won’t be cancelled, there are still tweaks to be made. Here’s the official format update for the largest League of Legends event of the year!
Vietnamese teams have been a source of trouble. Due to certain restrictions, they can’t make the travel to Shanghai and unfortunately, had to be removed from the event. This was an incredibly tough decision, but one which had to be made. Due to this reduction, the format had to change slightly.
Here is a concise review of the slight changes:
- Play-In Stage will involve 10 teams instead of 12
- These 10 teams will be split into two groups of 5 – depending on seeding
- Single round-robin will determine winners to advance to Group Stage, while third and fourth placements will have to fight further
- To do this, the third seed of the LCK has been advanced to the Group Stage
Nothing major, but Worlds 2020 has in fact changed through some tough decisions. Reaching its 10th anniversary, safety is being prioritised above anything else to ensure a smooth event. Everybody’s excited.
