Worlds 2021 Play-In Recap – Headed to Groups!
Indeed, out of the 10 attending teams, only 4 would go on to make it to the Main Event and find a spot in the Group Stage. Bearing this in mind, let’s list our 4 progressing seeds and discuss shortly how they made it:
- LNG Esports – Group A First Seed – easily the most dominant team at the Play-In, the Chinese team swept the competition in 4-0 fashion
- Hanwha Life Esports – Group A Second Seed – Winner of Qualification Round – hailing from Korea, this team was expected to make it through. Although not managing to earn the first spot, they managed to prevail. Indeed, they earned a seed in a head-to-head against Beyond Gaming.
- DetonatioN FocusMe – Group B First Seed – less clean than LNG Esports, a 3-1 record with a tiebreaker win over Cloud9 pushed this Japanese team to earn the first seed
- Cloud9 – Group B Second Seed – Winner of Qualification Round – another favourite for this event from the LCS, managed to prevail against PEACE in the final round
And now, these are the groups the teams now find themselves in:
- Cloud9 – Group A
- DetonatioN FocusMe – Group B
- Hanwha Life Esports – Group C
- LNG Esports – Group D
The main event kicks off on October 11th!
